Found this online and wondered if anyone had experience with this type of a box. Thinking of getting this as my cold weather travel solution where I can keep my dog under my truck bed cover. Do you guys think this would be a good idea? Should I be concerned with traveling with my dog enclosed in the bed of my truck? Would not have any issue doing it with a roll-n-lock partially closed.
Not sure on the full tonneau cover. It makes you pause though...
I assume it would be like a full camper just smaller, and those are fine...

Buy a battery powered CO2 detecter and stick about the level the dog would be. If it sounds off you'll know not to do it.
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Make sure your exhaust pipe has no holes. I would go for a CO detector over a CO2 detector.

I'd prefer to buy a camper shell, but the cost of those things isn't appealing, especially since I'd most likely only use it during the hunting season. My wife would give me the evil eye 3/4 of the year.

I have a Plastic crate wrapped in a Mud River Cover that I tether down to the bed of my truck. This works fine in warm weather, not so much in cold weather, like the kind your run into in the Midwest.

What's wrong with it in cold weather?
Also, you might tie the cage off and leave the tailgate down.

I used to have a full camper but even then I had the windows open. Not worth the risk of CO poisoning.
I think if you have a kennel cover to keep the wind off of them in the cold when they're wet then you're fine.
You're also talking about a kennel here that the dog can't even stand up in, and it'll be pitch black in there while running down the road/trail. I could see potential anxiety issues, too.

What about using a louvered tailgate, a louvered 5th wheel tailgate or a tailgate net? I think you'd still maintain warmth, but with less concern about noxious gases.

This might actually have the opposite effect and allow gases to accumulate in the bed while driving. I used to have a Blazer and I could never ride around with just the back window down because it would circulate the exhaust in. Vehicles get a low pressure area behind them when driving and the air flows over. Kind of the same effect when you drive around with some leaves in the bed of your truck, they get blown forward up to right behind the cab and stay there because there is basically a clam, low pressure area there to let them accumulate. I would also think that the set up in the picture would be colder on the dog in the winter also. I use a covered kennel and the small area and insulated cover keeps the dogs body heat in and I have let him out on 15 deg mornings after sitting outside all night and his body will be warm as toast. I would stick with the covered kennel and open bed before i did the flat covered bed... ideally, a camper shell and covered kennel inside that would be the best option.

Come on CSF, just let her stay in the front with you. She likes McD's fries too!

I had a rough enough time last year in the hotel room in Kansas when after a long day of hunting, my dog decided it was going to sleep in the bed with me. Don't want to repeat that with this dog, trying to nip it in the bud!

I always let my dog sleep in the bed in hotel/motels. He would never even think about jumping on the bed at the house, but he knew when we were staying in a hotel. He'd go straight in and jump right on the bed. Usually bring him back some snacks from the restaurant, too. My dog used to live for overnight hunting trips.

I wouldn't do it ,seen a few people haul poultry in a box inside a camper shell and gassed them to death or very close.Even with a new truck you never know flying down they road may create a vacum effect and pull the gasses in the bed.
