I'm 41. Literally been shooting same Hoyt heat that I bought in college. But. I'm getting older and the doesn't have much let off and seems heavy. Need something light that will last. I hunt but ifnyou average it out, seems like do more target shooting and drinking beer than anything Any thoughts on my what my next bow should be. Obviously I keep em a while. Thanks

I have an old Hoyt Hunter '94 model that I target shoot with every once in a while. grin You should visit a bow shop and actually feel different brands and models and find one that you like. You really want something that fits you and that you are comfortable shooting. My 2cents I shoot a newer PSE bow now, just because it was very comfortable to me. I know you will find something in your price range.

you be amazed at how far bow technology has come!

go to a good pro shop(not bass pro or cabelas) and tell them your situation, and shot a bucnh of different bows.

a good quality single cam like a mathews or diamond bow should be pretty easy for you to shoot, and some are pretty light

the new mathews helium is very slim and lightweight

I agree with txtrophy, find one YOU like. There are some great bows out there. I shoot Bowtechs and Diamonds.

Find your closest New Breed Archery dealer and go shoot one before you make your final decision.

Don't give up on old faithful. My buddy still shooting HS 1980ish bow. Wife bought him a Matthew's 5 years ago. He tried it for a week. Hated it and sold it.

Go to a actual archery proshop and test as many bows as you can and get the one that feels the best to you.

As stated above, go to the local pro shop and shoot every bow they have. Don't have the mind set on a a brand and just shoot, the bow will pick you. I shot them all and I ended up buying a bowtech, very happy with my choice.

If you are more on a budget Mission and Diamond bows are great bows. I moved up to my bowtech Destroyer 350 a couple years ago and love it. I shot the Z7 and it just wasn't for me, but As others have mentioned let the bow pick you and in my case the D350 was my bow. I'd look at bare bow no more than $700 if you want to stay around your $1000 mark. Accessories add up quick.

Be careful with Bowtech and diamond. I went through 3 sets of limbs on my diamond before i sold it, and about a month ago my brother bought a bowtech destroyer 350 and the bottom limb exploded on him and he is still waiting on limbs. Although bowtech doesnt charge for the limb replacement it is still an uneasy feeling everytime you draw back.

You have to be careful when adjusting the bow draw weight. Some people that have had the problem forget that there are 2 set screws on each side of the limb you have to tighten and loosen when you adjust the draw weight. That's the only problem I have heard about them exploding was after those type of incidents happened. Sorry to hear about all the problems yall have had.

Any product can have a bad apple every now and then. I shoot a Diamond Fugitive. It's a great bow for $600.

I ended up buying a Bowtech Assassin...love the bow @ this price, I see no reason to buy Diamond at a big box store for the same price ($600). I shot several bows...short list was Quest Primal, Bowtech Invasion, Z7 Extreme, PSE Bowmadness XS. But like the other guy said, if you shoot a couple dozen arrows through each bow, one will stand out. In the end I just loved the assassin even though it wasn't one of the top-tier bows.

GO SHOOT AS MANY AS YOU CAN. ONE WILL STAND OUT TO YOU ABOVE THE REST. THATS ALL YOU CAN DO.

I still shoot my 2006 Fred Buckmaster G2SQ. 32.5", 3.7lbs, and IBO Speed of 310! But I would definitely go to a local archery shop and shoot till you find the right one. If your in the Fort Worth area I highly recommend Smithfield Archery on Beach St. Go in there and see Stan, he will set you up right.
