I know it a Ford-Chevy thing but here goes. I just got my CHL and am in the market for a new semi-auto. I have 600+/- to spend on a pistol. I can only buy one. I want one that I can carry year around. Based on my friends pistols that I have shot, I am liking the Glock pistol, in a Model 19 or 26. Thanks and please respect everyone's opinion, as I appreciate the info from all.

Both your choices would be good. It seems the latest and greatest coming out are more slim lined. You have to decide if you want a pocket carry or one you really have to conceal good.

As far as slim 9's Kahr pm9 and some other variants, SW Shield, Ruger LC9, sig 938 and XD slims. There are some more but im not familiar

Pocket 380's - Ruger LCP, Kahr 9380, Sig 238 and a few others that I wouldn't buy

There was a nice sig 238 with a custom holster in the classifieds

I carry a Glock 19, althought at times i do wish it was a little smaller for easierconcealment and it's no like i'm a little dude either (6' about 215lbs).

Within your budget, I highly recommend a G26 then a G19 in close second and an FNP/FNX in third.

Trust me, spend a little extra o the front end and get a good IWB holster with a lether backing that can over the whole gun.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Glock 19 or FNX, then a mouse gun for quick trips to the store like a P3AT.

if Glock way - buy .40SW caliber, later buy a .40-to-9mm conversion barrel, so you can practice cheaper.

Or if slimmer preferred - Kahr single stacks in 9mm or .40 are always sound choice.

And there is always compact Bersa in 9 or .40

X 2 if Glock, although I bought the wife a Berretta PX4 compact that I am starting to like and it conceals very well.

If you just going to have one, then I'd go smaller. , like the Sig 238 or 938, or maybe walther PPS. I love my G19, but its still a big pistol. I can't carry it everywhere.

I'd get a smaller gun first. A bigger gun is easier to shoot, carries more rounds/bigger rounds, but you can carry a smaller gun everywhere.

Whatever you get, shoot the heck out of it.

Glock 26 or 27. I've been carrying one for 5 yrs now. Went through Kel-tecs, Springfields, Berettas, Bersa, S&W, Walthers looking for a CCW and finally fell in love with Glock 26. Carried a Gen3 then changed to Gen4 once they came out.

The CZ75 Compact line is a great choice too, especially the alloy frame PCR and P01.

If I ever got around to taking the course it'd be my glock 29. Too big for gym shorts but it packs a bunch.

G-26, H&K USP compact and or a Para P-12 will all work for me. Go to most of the time is the G-26, it's just easier, but the other two work well also.

I'm not a big guy, but I can get away with a full size Para P-14 with just a shirt untucked.

Glock 19, if it is good for the military, its good to go. 15 rounds of Winchester Ranger or Critical Defense, and conceals well. Number one 9mm handgun IMO. Springfields XDs are Crotian made, still good. But Glock has the best warranty and can be fixed if it ever breaks by a relatively decent gunsmith in a jiffy.

Sells guns for a living.

Like i tell people, it depends on how you intend to carry.
If all you want is something to throw in a pocket, kahr pm/cm9

If you want more capacity and carry iwb/owb i'd consider the glock19.

I've got a glock 26 myself but once i put the finger extension on the magazine i might as well just get a 19 instead

I know it's a hair over the price range, but it's hard to beat a Sig P228 in that size gun.

Glock 19 is a great choice too.

you might also want to consider the sig 938 if you want a small 9mm with a 1911 style safety.

slightly above your pricepoint though

I think allot is personal preference, I would at least hold an XDS and see if it is for you. It is not the smallest carry pistol but it is small enough for me. Fit and finish are top notch... Good luck in your search, allot of good people here as I have learned...

The answer is simple. Get the biggest pistol you will carry daily. If it's a pocket 380, then it's a 380. If it's a 9mm, then get a 9mm. But get one that you will carry. Personally, my G29 in 10mm fits me well 90% of the time in a IWB holster. When I'm wearing gym shorts, my small Kahr PM40 gets worn. IMO, 9mm as a minimum on caliber, and 40 is even better.

Thanks guys. Today I bought the 26 with extensions on the clips. Added Trijicon night sights. Brought it home and ran 100 thru it. I like it so far but the 19 keeps crossing my mind. Thanks for the help.

Go to a good gun store and drive the sales person nuts pick up every gun that you like (in your price range please). There are whole lot more great guns out there than bad ones. Pick a gun that works for you. I got my CHL about a year ago, at the time had a Kel-Tec p11 (not a bad gun but not on the great list), then I picked up a Ruger LCR .357mag, (I love it, but the recoil is not for the limp wristed), Then I picked up a Ruger LCP .380, (it is very popular, very easy to carry just drop it in a good pocket holster and you could almost conceal it in a thong,) I just picked up a XDs and love it (the only problem is its my wifes and when she gets her CHL its gone) I will be getting a Glock 23 soon, with a 9mm conversion barrel (I have a Kel-tec sub2000 as a truck gun and can use the same mags). All that said my first point stands, pick a gun that works for you. Another gun not to miss SW M&P. On the caliber, 9mm or larger is preferred, (by the way I some time carry a .380), a 9mm will kill you as dead as a .45 and you may train more with it because the recoil is lighter and cheaper to shoot. Buy a gun that you will train with, and can afford to shoot. If I knew I was going to get in a gun fight tomorrow I would want my XDm 9mm because it is the one I shoot the most and 19+1 is hard to beat. Sorry to be long winded. lol By the way if you want a custom kydex holster I can help you out.

Glock 30 is nice, a little fat, but nice.

Try renting or borrowing a Walther PPS. Shooting it feels like it's a much larger gun. Your choice of 9mm or 40 S&W, three mag sizes, two backstrap sizes, single stack, flat as a book and is one of those you can almost forget they're there with the right holster. This pistol let me keep my vow to carry every day, every time, once I was licensed. I knew if it was too hard to keep from printing, too much challenge, I would make exceptions.
I wanted a 1911 type, but ultimately it turned out they are way more expensive than I had wanted to spend. And they look to be really addicting.

If you will only have one pistol, you have to consider the ubiquitous Glock G19 and G23 along with Glock G26 and G27. All can be used with various longer mags for increased utility. Legendary reliability. Plus Glock is like Ford, parts are everywhere. I halfway expect to find a holster for a Glock at a 7-11 someday.
