I am sure this has been covered. I own a 357 and would like to buy a 10mm. From what i have seen they are very have very similar ballistics. What do yall think? If they are so similar I just can't justify buying a 10mm. Thanks for the input.

My son has a 10mm and loves it. Be prepared to have limited choices and limited and suppliers of ammo compared to the 357.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

seems like I've seen more animals taken with the 10mm. I have the 357 and love it, but if I could, I'd get a 10mm too

they shoot the same bullet, just the .40 has less powder. Therefore is about 180 fps slower.

my buddy shoots a 10mm and i shoot a .40. more often than not he has the upper hand on power, but with some loads (federal hydro shock 155 gr) i acutally have him beat on FT.lbs.
both have power out the kazoo, the 10mm is a stout round, i would't hesitate to purchase one. its probably the strongest avalible semi-auto round if you don't count the .50 AE.
as far as the difference between that and the .357, i think they both are about the same

I've seen a couple of Ted Nugent's shows where he talks very favorably about the 10mm in the Glock using a Corbon load. He suggested it would work as a bear load. If you check with Corbon, they make a 180gr load and claim 696ft lbs at 1320fps. That ain't hay.
Shoot straight and always carry a 7mm Remington Magnum.

I have a Glock 10mm and I shot a bobcat in the head with it this past year with unbelieveale results! I was actually using some very tame loads (Remington sub-sonics) that I bought extremely cheap awhile back, but it still split his head wide open on the exit side!! I cant wait to see what Black Talons will do to a deer this year!! By the way.......If I am not mistaken the 10mm was developed for the FBI, but it was said to be way more power than was needed to stop a human so they cut the case down to the current 40S&W length and called it a 40 instead of a 10mm!

Thanks for all the input guys. I didn't know the ballistics for a .40 and 10mm were so close. Since I have a 357 and a .40 I think i am gonna have to stay where I am.

this is true, it was too much for most agents to handle and penetrated way to much, they did develop a load called the 10mm lite, which was just loaded down.
if you want to affored the ammo and can handle the recoil, which really isn't that bad, i recommend the 10mm all the way

I recommend the 10mm over all the above rounds also. The gun was dropped by the feds because it would pass clean through a human and the possibility of inoccent bystanders being struck was very high. If you can find one, get a Colt Delta Elite. You wont be disappointed. You'll sell that 357 and the 40.

Thats actually the gun I set out to buy when I was looking for a 10mm, but after extensive research on this gun I found that it had a history of not being able to withstand the recoil of the 10mm and they would basicly shoot them self to pieces just like the Bren10!
So far Glock is the only gunmaker to not have an issue with the power of the 10mm!
I would still like to have one of them Delta Elite's for a collector piece though!

For self defense I would pick a .40 over a ten anyday. The 10mm doesn't use most of its energy in the target, and is just a waste. The extra penetration is good for hogs or something, but a waste for people.

When you say the ten doesn't use all it's energy on target. What are you refering too? Have you used the talons? And I have a Delta Elite 1st edition. I bought it new, which was a long time ago. And I've never had a problem with it. If my life was on the line. The delta elite would be in my hand not a glock. But that is why there is different manufactors and different calibers.

225, I think he meant, if the bullet passed through then there was excess energy that was not transferred to the game or evil doer. There is so much more damage that occurs from other factors though, such as cavitation damage, tumbling, etc that varies with every bullet, even in the same case.
I get in this arguement with my buddies at work all the time. especially talking archery. Kinetic energy is mass time velocity squared. Therefore, if you go up a little in velocity the increase is energy is exponential versus an increase in mass. This is the basis behind the "go faster" craze with new cartridges. But that is not the only factor, there's BC and a ton of stuff and people that are a lot smarter than me that figure all this out so we can blast stuff.

I was reffering to the fact that the 10 overpenetrates like a .357. The faster bullets don't use as much of their energy inside the target, and that energy isn't tranfered to the target as well as a slower round. In incapacitation tests the slower moving heavy bullets tend to stop things faster than the faster rounds. There was a test years ago, where they used goats and test different bullets and rounds, but I can't remember the name. Like someone else said there are many other variable, but that is the reason the .45 acp is so popular.

Yes exactly, but I was referrring to knock down power, and not neccessarily tissue damage. Tissue damage is more impostant imo in a hunting bullet, where knock down power imo is more important in self defense. People tend to give in faster than a animal.

I think that's one of the biggest reason's the fbi's switched to others. The older 1006's weren't holding up well at all. Actually had a few failures in the field with them.
If I was hunting with a handgun, I'd go 44 mag.
If it was an autoloader, I'd try the 357 Sig...

Actually, MV^2 is momentum. Kinetic energy is (1/2)MV^2, but the same principles apply. Momentum could be thought of as a measure of how hard it is to make the bullet stop. Faster rounds tend to go through stuff more except for the whole thing about tumbling, mushrooming, and all that stuff that much smarter people than us have worked very hard to figure out so that we don't have to walk far to find a dead animal.
She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.

Just shot the 10mm and it was amazing. Really felt like a 357 mag coming out of a plastic framed auto wait it basically is.
