I'm looking to buy my brother an inexpensive gun safe. I found this one at Academy, and am thinking about picking it up.

What experiences have y'all had with this particular model? Do you have any other recommendations around that price range?

Any opinions would be great!

Thanks
Bob

I purchased one and took it back the very next day. The paint job sucked and the welds on the hinges weren't even complete. I'd recommend calling A&C safes and see what they can do for you. I picked up a Nice Winchester safe from them for slightly more than the Sentry Safe.

I have one. It's really not bad at all. Hinges on mine look fine. I bought it because I live in an apartment and I will have to move around a bit before I finish school and get a real job. It's about 180 pounds and if you bolt it down to the floor or in a stud, it should be robber proof for a couple of hours. Most thieves get in and out quick and once they realize the safe is bolted down they will leave.

Later I plan on making it my ammo storage once I have money for a better one.

I can offer a third on that. I bought one from Academy to store my ammo and accessories that I wanted to keep locked up but were taking up too much room in my main safe and it is a good safe. I would recommend it.

I have one, got mine on sale for $279 two years ago at academy. First thing to go was the top shelf. Was tough to get rifles all in with it in place. Other than that I love it.

So, just so I'm clear, this can be bolted to the wall?

I got a stack-on 19 gun safe which is the size of some 24 gun safes, for $220 out the door on clearance at Dick's.

Good deal, wish I would have spotted that.

Yep, pretty good deal. I was looking for targets or something and spotted. I could not pass it up, then then they rung it up and it was like 25% less than marked.

I would stay away from electronic locks if at all possible unless the deal is to good to pass up. Also, you should hit a bunch of places in DFW and look for unadvertised clearance items. Try Norther Tool and the similar tool shops too(I think there is another store like northern or I may be loosing my mind).

That would be Harbor Freight and yes, they do sometimes have gun safes.
