I saw an ad today on Craigslist that states:

"They have opened up hunting of the scimitar horned oryx for 12 more months. Get your today before they close it again."

I hadn't heard anything about the pre-permit time being extended and I didn't see anyone on here talking about it. I assume this person is mis-informed, but I'd like to know since we have a few on our property. Anyone know if there has been an extended grace period?

I don't believe that is true. Sice we already have our permits.

But if your a ranch owner or an employee of the ranch you may still harvest them without a permit.

You still have to have a Captive Bred Wildlife (CBW) permit to 'take' them as a landowner or ranch employee.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet - classic case. There's no change to the current permit requirements. There is some activity on it still in DC, but it's got a long way to go, especially in a defunct congress in an election year.

From the EWA:

"A major victory was scored today in the House Interior Appropriations Committee.
Introduced by Republican Congressman John Carter of Round Rock, Texas, an amendment, which would grant the same exemption the Addax, Dama Gazelle and Scimitar Horned Oryx were given September 2, 2005, was approved by the Interior Committee. There is a long road ahead to ever see this appropriations bill and amendment become law, but the first major hurdle has been crossed. The appropriations bill will now be sent to the full House either as part of an omnibus bill or a stand-alone bill for their approval. If passed in the House we must then get the Carter amendment into the Senate Interior appropriations bill. If we are successful there it will have to be passed by the Senate. If this is accomplished the Conference Committee will then iron out the differences between the House bill and the Senate bill. This Conference report is then voted on by the House and the Senate and if passed will then be sent to the President where he either signs these bills into law or vetoes them.

I know this process is extremely complicated but remember, had we not been successful today the whole "three species" issue would have dead legislatively for now. Please take the time to contact Congressman Carter's office and thank him for all he has done. It was reported by our Washington Lobbyist that Congressman Carter did a fantastic job testifying before the House Interior Appropriations Committee."

BTW - only about 3-6% of bills that are introduced get signed into law, and that # has been reduced lately.
