A good friend of my daughter won a trophy Whitetail hunt through a contest Academy had last year. I don't know all the details, but I know the hunt will be filmed by the couple hosting the hunt, and that this will be the hunting opportunity of a lifetime for him (he's 16).

His rifle has a cheap scope that came with the gun, and he wants to upgrade before the hunt, but has limited funds. I was going to recommend a Nikon Buckmaster or Nikon Pro Staff in a 3-9x40, but wanted some input from you guys on these two scopes first.

I'd hate for the kid to get a chance of a lifetime to shoot a trophy deer, only to have the hunt ruined by the cheapo scope that's sitting on his rifle.

Any feedback you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

I had the 2-7 prostaff on my slug gun. It was decent for the price. But I do like my redfield revolution more, it seems to be clearer and picks up more light. The nikon monarch UCC seems like a great scope for the money from the ones ive seen.

I am no Nikon fan but those two scopes should serve him fine. If he fails to connect with a good deer he wont be able to blame it on either one of those scopes.

In that same price range I would also be looking at Burris.

Burris 3200 can sometimes be found in that price range and is another good option

Was distracted Bushnell 3200 elite or Burris Fullfield. Both good scopes for the $

Burris FF2 and vortex diamondback are good, reasonably priced scopes.

If it is being filmed the producers/film crew may require them to shoot their products to capture the NAME on camera.

What's the budget for the scope?

What rifle and caliber?

I don't have experience with the Buckmaster or Pro-Staff but the Nikon Monarch line has always impressed me.

The new Redfields are a good buy, especially considering the lifetime warranty. You don't get the clarity of a Monarch but the price is right.

Life time warranties now days are really standard in the scope market. Even your el-cheapos come with the same warranty as your top of the line scopes. Main difference is you will likely need that warranty with the cheapo......you most likely wont with the better scopes.

Several nomiable choices.

The new prostaff is a great scope. I would also mention the Vortex Diamondback and the Redfield Revolution.

All of these are going to work really well.

X2 The Nikon Buckmasters is a great scope. Also the Leupold VXI and II and the Rifleman also. And the Bushnell Banner(don't know how much any of them cost but pretty sure under $400)

The 2 scopes he listed run about $210 on Amazon.com, so I would guess the budget is close to $200 to $225.

Of course they are compared to your Swaro or Ziess or VX3 or whatever high dollar one you own!
