I found a smoking deal a few weeks ago on a marlin 917v and a 3-9x40 redfield revolution scope. The guy had it for sale on a local classified site and the ad read something like this "rimfire bolt action and scope $175" so i called him up and he told me it was not a 22 and not a 22 magnum but something like a magnum... He didn't even know what it was. He spilled the beans when he said " i think it is a horn day magnum" lol

I went to buy it....

I ended up giving him $150 for it and fell in love after shooting the first 7 rounds at about 85 yards and had a 1" group...

I dropped it off to a friend a few days ago to have the barrel shortened and picked it up yesterday.. I want to do more to this rifle but I don't know what else to do... I love it as is..

I am actually thinking about going with a high gloss colored stock, maybe a laminate gray or something...

this is my first but not my last.. lol It is amazing how much "better" this gun looks just by chopping the barrel down 5"s

I love my 17 HMR--it is by far my favorite rifle to shoot. I have a Savage with a thumbhole stock and had the barrel chopped to 18" and threaded. I love shooting it suppressed with my AAC Element--sounds and looks awesome and prints tiny groups!!

1) this is a truck gun, shorter=better
2) I like the shorter look
3) some believe shorter is more accurate, within reason.

The crown was messed up so I was going to get it fixed but thought I would get it shortened while I was at it.

Newer to the forums, but I'm really interested in the .17 HMR. I've been looking at a few and had a couple of questions.
1) Is the barrel shortening something that most gunsmiths can do well?
2) Have you had any problems with your Marlin properly feeding rounds?
A couple of boards had mentioned feed problems, but I wanted to talk with someone who owned one. My first gun was a Marlin .22, so I'd like to stay with the company if I could. Thanks.

1) there are several gunsmiths in the Beaumont area that does it. FYI: I wouldn't shorten the barrel unless it was a bull barrel. The smaller diameter barrels look kinda strange when you cut the 11 degree crown.
2) no feeding or ejecting issues at all.

My "go to" gun was a browning buckmark carbon rifle but it has now been retired to its final resting place. I don't know any reason I will ever take it out of my safe... I love this 17...

Great guns and very accurate. Mine is dialed in at 100yds and stays there. Awesome on impact.
