I thought this was interesting because another post recently involved the sale of a white buffalo hunt which angered Native Americans, which I completely understand. In the article below, it says a Native American tribe has been given a permit to kill 2 bald eagles for religious purposes. If we respect their views on the white buffalo then we should expect the same from them regarding the treatment of the National symbol. Native American Tribe given permits to kill Bald Eagle

Interesting that they would let them shoot an eagle. I have a friend that is a tribal dancer in the Osage nation in Fairfax OK. He normally received his feathers and claws from all over the United States when they had a poached or natural death. He would put in his request and they would send them to him when they became available.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

They'll put a serial number and have a permit for just about every part of the eagles. Tribal members wait years and years sometimes decades for a Bald eagle feather. Have a pretty good religious reason too.
Think about this. How many times have you heard someone say they are Native American? Ask them to prove it by showing their Federal tribal registration card. I believe most of them were registerted with the Federal government when they became U.S. citizens in the 1920's

There are those that hate with much disdain the entitlements that come with that card, therefor will never get it or let you know they have it.
I personally think its bs they are giving NA permits for hunting eagles.

I can't begin to tell you how I feel. To keep me on this forum, I will just go take a walk and rip a tree out of the ground and throw as far as I can. If that doesn't calm me down, maybe I will run as fast as I can until I pass out. Maybe that will help.

If they worship an eagle and a white buffalo that is the least of their problems.

There are those that hate with much disdain the entitlements that come with that card, therefor will never get it or let you know they have it. Those entitlements very by each and every tribe. Some like the richer tribes in OK or the north east get a great deal. Some like in the Dakato's or Az/new Mexico get nothing by having the card. I myself have pretty much never received anything. Except I didn't have to pay Federal tax on the gas I bought at the tribal gas station of the reservation.

You realize in Alaska Bald Eagles are like giant pigeons in numbers, right? They're not so endangered anymore... Same with elephants in some countries...

Why I said those.
Im not a fan of the permits..but they are off the endangered and threaten list so....so be it...I just find it ironic that they threaten and highly criticized about the option to purchase private property/resource that was scared to them yet the eagle symbolizes a lot to most Americans.

Yes you are right, but that's not the problem. The white buffalo is also more numerous today because breeders understand genetics. The fact that they are no longer a very rare animal does not make them less important to many Native Americans. So it is the same with the Bald Eagle with many other Americans. It is the symbol of our nation and should not be killed. I am grateful that the species has made a recovery but that doesn't lessen the importance of the Bald Eagle to me.

The tribes probably told obama they would vote for him so they got to shoot the eagles. If you tell him you will vote for him you will be able to shoot all the oryx you want.

At some point, due to Indian immigration, the beef industry will go to pot.

Would those same folks whom this doesn't seem to ire feel the same way if someone were burning our flag on the steps of the court house?
On one hand it is a scavenging bird of prey whose #s now don't need the protection of yesteryear but everytime I'm driving down a back road or fishing on an east Texas lake and see one I can't help but stop and watch it.
I know their land was stolen, their people killed, starved and given diseases almost to the point of extinction and that there is no way to ever change or fix that but gee whiz.

Native Americans are the only one's allowed to posses ANY part of a bald eagle (or golden for that matter), oh I guess biologist ect may have some kind of permission... The eagles has been sacred to them WAY longer than it has been our national symbol.
I'm ok with it.

I'm ok with it. I agree. Some people on here need to get off their high horse and realize not everybody shares their religious or political views.
