This quote really caught my eye.
If that doesn't change, may be a poor hatch this spring.

My brother in law said he is shooting consistent mallards and pintails daily and he is in ALASKA

I was just outside of Calgary, Alberta last week and saw Canada geese still out feeding in the fields.
Most of the potholes up there will have enough water, the Western Praire was pretty wet coming into fall.

IMO, it has more to do with them eating themselves out of house and home. And it that's true, what a kick to the nuts for us. Huge hatch this year, no artitc blasts to push plenty of birds our way, drought conditions with bad food source in our area pushing birds else where, so next year, if our drought breaks, low hatch and bird number decline possible. Well, I guess we could PM Garrett for the High Fence Ducking service.

I certainly see your side Hopedale but it could also have the other effect . . .
Birds that dont migrate dont get stressed and are fat and happy when nesting time comes around.
Birds that are able to start nesting early typically have higher succes rates as they are able to re-nest if the first attempt fails.
In addition, the seasons in the northern tier states has been closed for awhile now. Means their kill numbers may be down from years when we had winters.
Will be interesting to see the overall harvest numbers vs. the total population.
Guess I'm a "glass half full" kind of guy.

My duck hunting buddies in southern halfs of the Mississippi and Pacific flyways say they have had a terrible season. No ducks have shown up.
We've been very fortunate here.
