I am wanting to try to tan a few deer hides that I harvested this season with the hair being left on. Can someone point me in a good direction on where to learn a more simple way than I am finding. I know that it's not easy and I'm not looking for an easy way out, I'd just like something a bit more simple for someone who has never done this before but want's to learn how. I have seen more than 5 different ways to do it on line and I'm just confused.

Thanks

If you are looking for a soft tan you will not get it with just a "tan". We can not get it soft like the tannery can. The completed product will come out really stiff with hardly any movement. Just depends on what outcome you are looking for. If you do a tan like you see on a video, most of the time are a "wet tan" and will be for mounting purposes. You can get good instruction using McKenzie tan or Krotan. But again the outcome of these would be for mounting purposes. I hope this helps. But probably not the information you are looking for. Best thing, just try what you know and go from there. Let me know if I can be of any help.

I have never tried it, but this seems to suggest that it's not too difficult.
