I recieved this combo for christmas and have no clue where to start. Having never used a ml , I need a place to start. Recomendations on powder and bullets are my first concern. Are the hold over reticles on the scope accurate? I have heard this gun hasa realy tight bore and is pickier than most on bullets. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Well ,I went out and bought what I thought I needed. BH 209 powder, TC shockwave 250gr controlled expansion bullets, powder measurer , cleaning kit , and the WRONG primers. According to their website , the remington kleanbore primers are not recomended. still can't shoot!

Ok , Went out and shot today. I am using 120 load of the BH-209 and federal primers. I dry swabbed the barrel after one shot and the patch was almost completely black. I was under the impression that this powder left very little residue. Is this normal or am I loading too much?

Yes.... I shoot 100gr of BH-209, TC 250gr super glides, federal primers out of mt bone collector. If you can shoulder that load and your shooting a group with it then your fine.

Yeah , it kicks like a mule. I had to shoot 14 times due to a loose scope issue. Not sure how well it groups though, after that many heavy loads. I will shoot again later just to see how tight I can get. Just making sure I was not overloading it or something.

I shot Thor 300 grain bullets with 150 of grains of pelleted powder. And I can touch 2nd and 3 rd rounds. My BC seams to shoot better with a fouled barrell. I hope to start using loos powder by next season. The Thor bullet is a bad boy bore specific 50 cal. Solid copper

I haven't shot that one but in my Encore I use 80gr of pyrodex pellets and 300gr Hornady .429 bullets with Winchester 209 primers, just because your gun will shoot heavier loads doesn't mean you have to shoot them.
With the lighter loads your range marks in the scope will not match the range but they will be on at some distance, you can shoot and find what those are.
You do not need a load for Moose or bufffalo to kill hogs and deer, the first deer I killed with a blackpowder gun was shot with a load of 50gr of Goex Black powder puahinf a 45 cal patched round ball.

When target shooting with the ML I often use a load of 50gr pellet and a 240gr lead saboted 44mag bullet and that is enough for hogs or deer out to 50 yards, that load is a little more than the old 44-40 which killed a lot of critters in its day
