Anyone else at a lack for a "Hog Problem"? Lol I swear we're lucky to get one pic a week with a hog at a feeder at our lil 50 acres in trinity county. I see all these people with large swine numbers and it makes me sad all day. Anyone else see this kinda action? or lack therof?

We got em on a couple of our places but I'd take more. I don't farm and the meat is better than deer I think so I would'nt mind seeing them more.

I don't consider deer to be the greatest game animal, above all other creatures like most do. I shoot them because it's deer season, I eat them because I shoot them. I have deer on the wall and will put more if I feel they will look good but I do not trophy hunt and would rather hunt and shoot a pig any day. I don't really use inches of antler to try to prove how good of a hunter I am. Give me oppurtunity and a good hunt that produces a tasty critter. I'll take pigs all day.

I cant shoot holes in that logic! Well said, I do very much agree on the oppurtunity to hunt and enjoy the hunt, the outdoors and the fruits of your kill. In this situation they where so bad that you wouldnt even see as much as a cottontail it seemed... had to do some house cleaning!

I haven't seen any pigs on the place in almost two years now. I did just notice one of the fields got rooted up about 3-4 weeks ago. But the pigs didn't stay on the property due to a lack of water. With todays rain, might get a little water in the tanks and creek and see more signs of them. I enjoy hunting them and coyotes way more than deer.

Holland I understand the hate I have been in the situation before but like I said I dont farm and have no reason to hate them so the more I get a chance to hunt the better for me and my boy.

Hear,Hear, I would much rather shoot hogs all day than Deer. They are challenging and excellant table fare. Trying to set something up for next year. Love to eat me some piggies!! Love those tusks.

Trustme, the hogs are out there. We have 100,000 acres and run 18 feeders twice a day and road feed the ranches every 3 days and there are hundreds of hogs seens every night. The larger the land and the more feed that is put out and the hogs will settle in.
Just be careful what you wish for. If you aren't trying to raise and better the populations like we are, feed little and cut all the trees and brush out and less than 500 acres you can run them right off.

Our hog problem went away last March. Since then, not a sign of them on our place. The neighbor trapped 3 back in early September, but nothing since. Another neighbor is getting regular photos of them about 1/4 mile from my trap, but they never make it down to our place. Whole corn, rotten fruit, and sour corn will sometimes sit in my trap for 3 days before songbirds and raccoons finally clean it out. I'm looking forward to the day that I have a hog "problem" again. They are about as much problem as deer, but not quite as rare.
Deer quality is not measured by antler size

Lack of water had a big impact on the pop. in alot of areas that went dry. we are still stacked with them but we are also one of the only that had a stock tank that lasted through the drout..and the river is right down the road....they have been spreddin in big numbers since the rains started coming down.. they will be back

Holland. You may want to check on State laws on transporting wild hogs. It's against the law to take them any where but a slaughter house, licensed holding facility, or a licensed hunting facility. That came from a GW.

I know they can be destructive. I know that they can over populate. I still like to kill them and eat them and give the meat to family, friends and those who need it.

My freezer is full, my friends freezers are full. The rest are taken to a local church with a "Hunters helping the Hungry" program. They except them whole, I don't even have to process them. And every one of them are appreciated and used. Chupa

Shoot i dunno about them being better than deer and I know for a fact if they were in pest mode on my place disturbing deer action and stuff I would be livid. They're just another big game I can hunt and gettin my bow all setup to night hunt in the off season and I cant even get a pattern on em cause I cant get enough pictures! lol. Just need some action in the off season is all!

WOW!!! A while back everyone was raising heck because there were too many hogs................ HA HA HA HA!!! Last winter I was cussing the pigs everytime I stepped foot onto the family property. I used them as a rationale to purchase a bunch of gear and basically descended into a form of madness and obsession with pig hunting. When the oxbows and stocktanks dried up and the pigs moved elsewhere where I couldn't hunt them, I was crestfallen. What a conundrum! Having a year round, CHALLENGING big game hunt by almost any means is really pretty great and I love that Texas does not impede our ability to do so, but it is pretty easy to take your eyes off the prize and get mired in the details, isn't it?
