I have rattled up a lot of bucks, but all I have are some lil antlers from a buck I shot when I was a lil kid... little basket rack.
the problem is those antlers dont make a whole lot of noise and it is hard to bring bucks in fom long distances. Have any of yall had any luck with the fake antlers they sell at academy or one of the other gimmick looking devices??
I just want something with more noise to reach out there to the deer.

I've got a set of synthetic antlers. I don't use them much because they are so cumbersome. I went back to a set similar to your current set up. They are much easier to pack and carry. Yeah, they don't sound like two giants, but close enough. To answer your question: They are loud and sound realistic (to me).

Let me say they work! I rattled up an old cull 8 this morning. I hadn't seen anything in over an hour. Started Rattling and he was charging in 10 minutes later!

I've got a pair of falsies...they work fine...rattled in three small bucks the other morning and knocked the bark off my left middle finger...they work just like real ones...maybe not as "clackey" if that means any thing...seam a bit duller than real horns but they work.

I have never used them since I have and endless supply of fresh sheds to work with every year. But my rattling horns that I have are old. One side is around 23-24 yrs old and had to replace the other with a shed that is 17 yrs old now a few years ago. I have seen on type of synthetic antlers that did have a good sound but do not remember the brand. When bucks are really charging in when rattling you can tap a stick on a wooden rifle stock and get on in. Right time and right place they will work but to me nothing beats the real thing.

I use Mulie sheds. They are easier to handle for me and sound better, imo. I cut the tips off, for safety. If I had to use any hand made jobs I would use the rattling bags.

I always laughed at the Pack Rack, until left my real antlers in a tree and had to borrow one. I reluctantly used it and had such success that I wound up buying one. Haven't been back to get the antlers, yet. I'd say that I've had as much or more success with the pack rack. I was shocked.
Of course, if a buck hadn't come running in the first time I used it, I wouldn't have given it many more chances.

I've been using a rattle bag for a few years now and they work great. To me they sound exactly like antlers as they are made from bone. You can rattle as hard as you want and the sound will carry. It has worked for me several times in the rut. They just seem to come out of nowhere.

I rattled up a small buck at Gus Engeling over the weekend with a Rack Pack. I was skeptical at first also.

I use elk antlers but I have to tie one of them to a tree. It can be heard 2 miles away. JK! I only have synthetic and I have rattled in several bucks the last couple of years.

Not sure What brand I have, but have used a rattle bag for years. Works pretty good and fits well in my pack. To me there are 2 types of "rattling", when you want to imitate a buck on a rub thrashing on a tree, and when you want to simulate a fight. Bags are great for the fight. Pretty realistic.

I have always used real antlers in the past. And to help with the smashing of fingers I cut the brows off. But last year was given the pack rack and decided to give it a try. I used it all season to give it a fair chance and didn't rattle up one buck. Needless to say I was pretty disapointed and went back to the real thing this season and have rattled up several bucks so far this year.
In my opinion; nothing beats the REAL THING!

I have used the pack rack this year and have had pretty good success the last week or so. Easy to carry and they don't make any noise while walking in either.

I got a pair of fake ones I got at a resale shop for a buck.. They sound wonderful.. Loud.. Rattled up a buck on the back porch this week with them.. I use a bag just on the fact I don't wanta trip or stumble on a rock and stab myself with a piece of my own gear
When in doubt.. Empty the magazine
