Son got drawn for a youth spike/doe hunt there in two weeks. Never have been but wondering what compartment might be a good request.

Thanks

You don't get a choice, they place everyone randomly I believe, possible though they might do things differently for the youth hunts there.

Youdo get a choice. Ussually not random. Deer are all over every unit. Some of the bigger units back by the river can be good. I have hunted compartment 2. Saw alot of deer everywhere. You should be pumped. Sit on a right of way 100 yards from a good trail. Which are everywhere and its a slam dunk. Congrats on the draw!

Might have been because I was a standby hunter, but no I was not given the option to hunt the compartment, I asked. Like I said they may do things a little differently on the youth hunts. How did you do on the bowhunt there BTW?

We were just at Gus Engeling this weekend and we were allowed to request specific compartments, but did not have any idea of what to ask for.

Thanks for the info. It is a Youth mgmt hunt (Spikes/Does), so as long as he can see some deer and maybe have a shot he will be happy. We saw allot at Engeling, but they did not slow down to offer any shots.
