Wanted to get some of your opinions on this one. I guess this bear's birth was shown live on the internet and there was a large following. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against bear hunting, I've been trying to set up a hunt with a relative who lives in North Carolina, but I think a this hunter crossed a line. It appears he knowingly targeted this mother and her cub after knowing full well that the animals had raised the public's attention. I think this makes us look bad and certainly doesn't help out our image in an increasingly anti-hunting nation.

Don't shoot the messenger here, just interested in your thoughts.

Doesnt seem to me like he targeted the famous bear, seems like he was just bear hunting.

If he targeted that bear for the notarity then he's a jerk of the highest degree. Boasting about it before hand was even stupider.

That said... most black bears look alike, and the ability to "target" a specific two year old sow seems difficult to accomplish.

Unfortunate to say the least...for the bear and the hunter intentional or not.

We have a common practice on our place for select animals. You may "claim" an animal which designates a no shoot status. Usually a doe with twins or a smokey gray bobcat. Kind of neat to catch multiple sightings through the season. The claim is only good for one season and does not include a legal buck.

had this hunter targeted this bear it would be no different than what people in texas do. feeder, camera, view pics, pick deer, wait for deer to appear at said time, blast desired deer.

This is a little off subject but OP says, this makes "US" look bad. Why is every person with a license have to be lumped together as hunters? There is no "US", I'm not on this guys team. If it makes somebody look bad it's HIM not US. People dont do this with other things, drinkers dont say, man that guy that killed those people while driving drunk makes us look bad. If one dude wants to go hunt a certain way or a certain animal, go ahead. I had nothing to do with. This is not directed at anyone in particular just asking cause I see it all the time.

You may think that way, but anti-hunters do not.

People forget that there is a reason all the bears and wolves have been killed off.

If it was that easy, then every hunter would have monster deer on their walls and there wouldn't be a need for HF's





It is a shame, but I wouldn't be surprised that the guy targeted this animal and went after it with every intention of only shooting this bear. My guess is that he was not the only one, he just happened to be the one that was successful.
