I'm looking to buy a new 223 bolt gun. I've got a ar15 and a sendero 300wm and I want to get a 223 bolt that I an shoot a little cheaper than 300, can shoot some distance and teach my kids to shoot. My question is what would you buy and why. Ive looked at the tikka savage and 700. I want to shoot out to 5-600 yards so give me your 2 cents. Thanks. If you got one for sale let me know

700 SPS or a Tikka will get the job done just fine.

I'm sure that savage will do it as well. All depends on how much you want to spend.

look at the savage predator. i just recently got the one with the fluted barrel. first 3 groups had all shots touching. scary accurate, a little on the heavy side, but who cares.

All good options but for a 223 Bolt gun my favorite is a CZ 527.

This is what I have and it is the best rifle I own.
They have a 527 Varmint model with heavy barrel also.

Tikka would be a great gun if it wasn't so ugly.

Budget, budget, budget.

How much do you really want to spend on the rifle and scope/
I think that's the first place to start. Or at the very least it can help you narrow down your choices.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I'm that little voice in the back of your head saying "buy an ar-15...you know to want it...get an ar15!...."

Need to find that little voice that says read, read, read. He stated in the OP that he already has an ar.

There are several variations in the 700 and Savage. As has been stated budget may be a factor. Really think about all you want to do with the gun and strike that balance with any of the mentioned and you will be fine.

Nothing wrong with getting a second ar... Once you get one, you'll want another one...

I'm just confused what reason someone would have to get a bolt gun when they already have an AR in the same caliber??? I would appreciate if someone sated my curiosity.

My Savage is accurate as hell...but I've also heard great things about the Tikkas and CZs

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it illegal for sober people to own cars.

If you are wanting to shoot long range I would look into what ever will give you a faster twist to shoot some of the heavier bullets available for the caliber.

Yep. Faster twist will allow a wider boolit selection.

The at I have is setup for one purpose and it's work not hunting. I am looking to be able to do some shooting myself but also have a gun kids can shoot in the future. Ar I guess isn't out of the question. Just want a different setup for some longer shots.

Also, consider a Browning A-Bolt. I have one and it shoots incredible.

x2 on the SPS Tactical. I have one in .308 (in my signature), it's a real tack driver.

No. The Badge Ordnance M5 bottom metal was added to the A5 tactical stock. It uses AICS mags. Great system.
