Howdy y'all,
I am new to the San Antonio area and am am avid hunter, Whitetail with bow and rifle, turkey, and waterfowl. I was just assigned to Fort Sam Houston to do my last three years before i retire from the Army. I am looking for DIY hunts or a small lease that does not cost an arm and a leg. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd check with Ft Sam's information on hunting for Camp Bullis (north of 1604 on NW Military Drive). I'm not sure of the details since I've never been in the army. Last I heard from an army friend, they still did hunting out there by draw.

Welcome to the forum. I might be wrong, but the Navy might have something down around Kingsville. If you are into fishing the Air Force has their own marina out at Amistad Lake in Del Rio, about a 150 mile trip one way.

If you're into camping, fishing and water recreation, Canyon Lake has 2 areas set aside for military personnel.

Thanks for serving and welcome to Texas//

Thank you all for your responses they are very helpful. Also thank you all thanking me for my service, I do it because I love it I will tell you that. Does anyone know about the duck hunting here, I know that canyon lake is here but do not know the deal with the regs. Some of them are kind of confusing. I am coming from Louisiana and there you could hunt on pretty much any lake because it was public property. Also are there any WMA's around here?

The nearest WMA that I can think of that may have some duck hunting would be the Chaparrel WMA on Choke Canyon Resevoir near Three Rivers. Not much of a waterfowl hunter myself. Most of the areas that I am aware of are near the coast around Port Aransas.
