I need to buy a couple and there are some many available. What would you recommend or not recommend?

I have moultrie. I know tht there are better ones out there, but for the money/picture combo, they have been great for me. Battery last a long time and just found out that customer service is pretty good. Send four back to them and they called me the day that they arrived, discussed the issue and told me they would fix them and send them back.

Primos Truthcam 46, best I have found for the money. Very flexible, sense movement up to 30 yards.

I picked up a pair of Moultrie I40 cameras on a deal from the factory. Eat batteries like a kid eating popcorn.

You can call anything you want, free country. But then again you would be wrong. Amazing, I assume you do not have one of these camers? I guess you are just ignorant so I can let you slide this time. These camers have actually tripped at 40 yards too. A friend of mine has the cheap Tasco brand and we set them up side by side and both tripped inside of our plant at 40 yards. The Truth Cam 46 has 3 sensitivity settings. If I put it the max it takes too many pics of trees, grass and birds that barely move. The only time the sensitivity is not good is when it is 90+ outside. What kind of camers do you have that don't trip at a decent distance? Must be Wildgame, they only trip at 10 yards.

As you may already know, most cameras out there are going to be hit and miss. Some may work well for several years and some only last a couple of weeks. Some are battery gluttons as well. I personally have 1 stealthcam and 2 wildviews. All work ok. I am going to buy reconyx when I can afford them. Best trigger time in the biz with durability and they are misers on batteries. Drawback is that it runs about $450- $600 each. I use the wildview 5.0IR and Stealth Cam IR5. All 3 eat batteries at a pretty good clip. Have to change mine every 3 to 4 weeks.

I have the truthcam 60 and its more like 3 yard trigger range. Still very new though.

Man it's a mixed bag out there for cameras. This one does this and that one does that. Most all of them are battery hogs. I use wildgame cameras myself and I like them. I've put external batteries and solar panels on mine and have them in the field 2 years now. I like the cameras because of the ease of use and it's got the options I wanted and could afford. Really it's in what you want the camera to do and how much you wanna spend. I know this isn't much advice but hope it helps a little.. good luck!

If you do get a camera, I'd recommend a portable photo viewer. They're handy for checking the images on your trail cam without having to dismount it. You just eject the SD/MMC/MS card and insert it in the viewer.

I bought the Cuddieback viewer and it wasn't worth it. I just use my video camera while I am in the field now. If you have a digital camera, it serves the same purpose.

I bought the Moultrie M80 the other day and it seems to better than the other ones that I have. It is smaller and has a quick trigger speed. It also has multiple settings that allow for monitoring food plots. I set it in Kansas, so I guess I will know if it is any good when I go back in a month.

I have been very happy with my Primos 70. So far...so good.

I also think a lot of these(regardless of brand) are hit and miss on the quality result that you get.

All mine SD cards.. I switch the cards and view them on my computer anyway to study them. So works for me without the extra expense.

I have two Bushnell Trophy Cams and 1 Wildgame Innovations x6c, both have done very well for me, but I must say the WGI x6c is better for the money. It's got great pic quality, both night AND daytime, better than my more expensive Bushnell's. The x6c is smaller than the Bushnell TC too. You can find the x6c for about $100 online if you shop around.

My only recommendation is stay away from the Cuddeback Captures and Capture IR's
We have had a terrible time with them, so far I have sent 8 of the 9 we have baack for repair/replacement.
I just went to a Reconyx, expensive but so far it sure is far superior to the Cudde's

Well, I took the Cuddy Attack back to Cabelas today with the intent on getting another Reconyx. While there, saw the Leupold RCX and got it and going to give it a try.

This camera seems to have a wide sensor range and pretty fast trigger speed. Good clarity on pics also for that late in the day. Post up some field photos when you get some.

I've had good luck with a ScoutGuard SG570 and Reconyx HC600. I like the Reconyx better because it has a MUCH faster trigger and I never miss a picture with it. It also has a black flash and much longer range. I've never seen an animal staring at it in surprise like I have other infrared cameras.

The ScoutGuard is smaller and easy to set up anywhere. I take more precautions with the Reconyx due to the cost (lock box, cable, out of view).

Both run a full season on AAA batteries. Of course that depends on the number of pictures taken and both can take an 8GB or better SD card that will easily last between trips to the lease.

I have had the best luck with Moultrie. I tried the Wildgame Innovations cameras when they first came out and had terrible luck with them. The infrared went out on the first one after 3 weeks so I returned it to Academy. The replace only lasted 2 weeks so I went back to another Moultrie. That was 2 years ago... still works great...

One camera we like a lot that is affordable is the Moultrie Game Spy M-100. It is a mini camera that offers a lot for its price. The following link is a post that we recently added to our website that goes into a little more detail - Best Trail Cameras of 2011 (That is if you want to take a look).

Really, there are so many good cameras on the market right now you just have to decide on your price range and then go from there. Trail cameras are almost too addicting. You will want more than just one or two before long so keep that in mind as well...

You can't go wrong with the ScoutGuard. I've had mine for over 3 years now and it is great. Lots of pictures, 1 set of batteries last all season long.

I've had the Moultries and Cuddys and the ScoutGuard has outlasted them all and is my all time favorite.
