Came across a road killed mom skunk and a little one roaming around in the road confused. I held her by the tail outside the window till i got to the farm. Made her a box with the towel thing, just as you have. She was older and didn't need mom's milk to survive. Fed her cat food and other stuff. After a trip to the vet next day, she didn't want to be without me. Followed me everywhere. Named her Rosebud. 1967...

Let me know if you want to get rid of one when they get a tad bit bigger...I will come swoop it up. Strangly I have always wanted one as a pet.

I read somewhere once that keeping skunks as domestic pets is illegal in texas. Maybe that is just with regards to domestic-bred skunks. Does anyone know the legality of keeping them as pets?

As far as providing for them, a wildlife rehabber can help out. This website also looks interesting: http://www.skunksaspets.com/index.htm

[quote=Critter Getter]My brother was tearing down a shed when a skunk ran out from under it. He heard what sounded like baby mice and then found 6 of these lil guys. They are probably to young to make it without momma but I was thinking bout trying to keep them alive. Anybody ever done it? Is it even legal to keep them?

You asked so....

I had a pet skunk when I was 17 yo. It grew up after it was wened eating can dog food. She weighed about 45# when fulled grown. She would follow me everywhere like a dog and every time she saw my father. She would chase him and then turn and raise her tail up, like she wanted to spray him. I sure miss "Sweet Pea"

A 45 pound skunk? Sweet Pea must have dipped into your steroid stash to get that big... 45lb skunk would give me nightmares...

Why is everyone always so worried about dang rules? You found the little skunks so it's your decision what you do with them. If you want to keep them as pets, keep them as pets. TPWD has more important things to worry about than some guy that was kind enough to nurse some baby skunks and keep them healthy and decided to keep them around... or at least they should have other things to do.

Worst case scenario is they confiscate the skunks and fine ya. Surely the penalty for keeping a skunk is less than that of a DUI right?

He needs to be fed every 2-3 hours, constantly monitoring the temp in his box and cleaing up his poop. Cant wait for his eyes to open.

If you are successful in raising him to matuirity; be careful hom nuch you feed him. Being a wild animal they tend to eat all they can get and will get overweight. I had one many years ago and she was a super pet. She had the run of the place and would startle guest when she would walk into the room unannounced.

Boy I dont miss that part at all!!!!

I found a 2-3 day old Squirrel a few years ago and raised her to full maturity. First 2 weeks I had to get up every 2 hours every night to feed her. It was a lot of work but very rewarding. I would probably never do it again though.
