Why do you have to have a pass through, as long as the hog drops is all that counts, I don't even care whether it drops. The only time I wish for a pass through is when I can several lined up. up

PASSTHROUGH of the initial hog shield, which is the PRIMARY discussion of this thread, is VITAL to disrupt the vitals of the beast.

That is the only passthrough that I am concerned with discussing and was the entire reason for me offering my experience with my big boar.

All the other irrelavant babble is entertaining but non-productive. I will engage in it from a frivolity standpoint I don't take computer speak to heart, I hope others can disassociate it just the same.

cool2

I'm confused. I thought this was a discussion on solving systems of non-linear, homogeneous, differential equations for their eigen vectors confused2

Now what was the name of that disease where you can't remember what you did last night, but you remember everything from 30 years ago? Anyway, trying to follow threads like this is how you get it.

All I know is that I will be in the woods in a couple of hours and I am hoping that my Muzzy broadheads will do what various long gun projectiles have apparently failed at.

Good luck to all...

...My understanding from participating in this thread is as follows: so long as you are not an "amateur" your arrow will pierce anything and everything, ALWAYS.

I've herd a similar story to this, but the offending ammo was Hornady TAP with the varmint bullet rather than coreloct. I'm not sure what to believe. Shoot for the neck or head.

I posted this a while ago, but I guess now's a good time too. This bullet was recovered under the offside skin from a 320lb+ boar. Shot from a .300WSM at 75yds. DRT. Swift scirrocco 180gr. reloaded to about 2900 fps MV.
They are tough animals, but definately not bullet proof. I've since shot several hogs with Hornady interlocks/remington corelocks (from the .300)and remington corelocks (from a .30-30).

None have failed to penetrate the plate at broadside.

You've shown yours, now I will show mine.

Recovered approximately 2 - 3 inches deep in the shoulder/bone/scar tissue shield of "Hell Pig" in January.

The other bullet was the same, I only kept the one for photo framing with the picture.

Is that just the jacket...or is there lead still in there? That was definately one tough dude!

It is hollow in there not a mass of lead as your bullet is.

I thought so. So I think the OP should learn that you need to use a decent bonded core bullet. Otherwise...they just fall apart and lose lots of energy.

BTW...the boar I shot the other night had 1.5-2 inches of "plate" on either side. You definately cannot use a bullet designed for thin skinned animals and expect reliable performance with a broadside shot. You'll kill some for sure, but best bet is a quality bonded bullet.

My bullet was a plastic pointed tip.

Here is a .223 handloaded with 62 grain barnes TSX. Went through both shoulders and stopped on the skin on the other side. This was on a 160lb hog.

TSX are amazing bullets! Shot my AK black bear with a triple shock. He went 25 yds after a complete passthrough.
