Of the 2 I would go with the 700. That said I traded a 700 for a Tikka T3 and do not regret it. to the forum

RWH24, I'm extremly new to hunting, and I would like to get a round that can take a hog down, but still be able to take a deer down. I have a friend that has a deer lease that I plan on using next year, but I'm trying to figure out if I should get a short range-brush or a long distance rifle.I have been thinking about getting a 243,270, or 30-06.I have a 12 gauge shotgun, but he said that he usually doesn't get close enough to the deer to use a 12 gauge. Thanks for your advise,

I have a 243, 270 is probably one of the most popular calibres, but 30-06 is just plain good. 7mm-08 is a great round as is 308...
Any of the calibres I posted above will get the job done you want done..... If hunting 300-500 yds for deer, one of the Magnums..
Brush country 100-200yds max any of the non-magnums I listed.
Folks here on THF kill hogs and deer with 223/5.56 or 22-250.
You do not need a small cannon to kill hogs.

been a fan of the .243 for 25 years, put it where it counts and something dies everytime. Ive never lost an animal to it. nor my kids either. Youd be surprised at what that 100 gr bullet can do.

7/08 no doubt, Remington 700, ignore anything vanguard says he is a "Remington hater" and has proven his lack of ability other than ability to google over the last few days, the Remington 700 is a great action, there are other choices as wellentioned that are also fine. Just a heads up . And welcome to the forum!

I wouldnt take the advice of someone who thinks a hammer forged receiver is "better" than one machined out of bar stock...without even knowing the process or reasoning of doing hammer forging. he just assumes because "hammer forging" is embelished it is somehow "better".

I have a Remington 710. It's ugly, the bolt drags, the trigger is heavy, but it will put a 150 grain .30-06 bronze tip inside a 1.5 inch circle at 100 yards all day.
If you have the money, the model 700 is the best. There is a reason snipers, competition shooters, and custom rife makers use the 700 action.
The 770 replaced the 710 as the "introductory" gun. It’s a cheaper version of the real thing, but good enough. I have a 100% one shot, one kill with mine. You don't have to have a tack driver to kill a deer.
Also, the .30-06 has the widest selection of ammo available, but the .270 is close. The .243 and the .308 will do a great job also. Stick with the major calibers so you don't have to search for ammo.

In that case, go with the .270.
