Just to play the devil's advocate one last time, how many of you who carry a sidearm "just in case" carry enough water to last at least one day, a means of starting a fire, a compass should you become disoriented, a first aid kit, and other such essential survival items?

Just as easy to carry as a sidearm, and you're much more likely to NEED those in the woods...

Call me a nerd, but actually i pack a backpack with 3 bottles of water, a lighter, and a snake bite kit. i dont use a compass due to where i hunt i can use powerlines as reference points.
I will say one thing on the no sidearm side.... You get a little more of an adrenalin rush while using minimal equipment. maybe "sidearm" is the wrong term for this..... maybe there is a compromise, a side-weapon..??? would the ones saying they dont carry a gun admitt to saying they carry a knife??? and also say they would have knowlege to use the knife if needed?

this has all been very interesting . I don’t think I'll be packin a compass but as I do deer hunting or any other hunt I will have water first aid kit and my little GPS.it's all in a small pack.one thing I will add to it is the snake bite kit. thanks for that woulda never thought of that one till someone got bit . and just for incase I'll go ahead and have my raging bull 44. I have it so just as well I guess.it's not that I'm afraid just wanted to be prepared..... to the one that said if I cant shoot stay home..well sir I can hit the small side of a barn with my eyes closed ...well..... myabe not the first shot but always before I run outa bullits.hehehe...(joke)

thanks all.

2 Redd. Just FYI the old snakebite kits are kinda useless. Ive been a Paramedic for 10 years and its more lethal to try and mess with the wound vs trying to keep the person calm and getting them safely to the ER. Might try and find out which hospitals in thre area have antivenom as they dont all carry it. Just my 2 cents.

2redd. I always carry my 45 since you can't see through a scope when it's pitch black at 5 in the morning on the way to the blind or certain sittin spot.

M Bennett. I recognize your area code. Bout where are you located? Sounds like you're close to where I hunt. We have tons of hogs also.

the only reason I carry my side arm is for illegals and snakes.

I carry a sidearm when i'm pig hunting. I have had a few brush past me when they were getting the hell out of dodge. Those are just running to get away and did not see me. Came between a momma and her piglets and she was hell bent on protecting them. She charged and I shot her. Sometimes you walk thru the woods at night and get a eerie feeling that something is watching you. It's comforting knowing you have a pistol on your side.
