So my dad is on a deer lease about an hour and a half southwest of Dallas and he calls me every weekend telling me about how he watches the ducks pour into a tank close to his deerstand all of the time. After giving me a hard time about it, and everyone on the lease shooting their deer by Saturday, he decided it was time to try his hand at the ducks. So we went on Sunday morning and had a great time. Ended up hanging out all day sunday and doing some dove hunting while we were there, then stayed the night and hit the ducks again Monday morning. I don't get to hunt with Pops much since he's mostly a deer hunter and I am always chasing the quackers, but it was fun to get out there again. The ducks didn't know what hit em, I didn't use the call once, and we limited in 20 minutes with ducks still coming in. We shot 8 different species in one morning, including a hooded merganser, which I have never seen before. His deer lease is now the duck lease for the remainder of the season!

That is awesome...enjoy the time spend with your Dad. I live a 1000 miles away from mine and sure do miss our hunting together.

That was the best thing about it. It is a 4 acre tank and hasn't been hunted in a long time, if ever, and the ducks come in every morning. So it was a rude awakening.

you know that merganser doesn't count against your duck limit.

you left one bird short.

Yeah I didn't know it was a merganser until after we stepped out of the blind and went to get him. By then, we were done.

Congrats on the hunt!

Some of the best hunts I went on last year were at a buddy's deer lease in January. Quick limits almost every time.

Yeah I wish, they wouldn't let me get my shot at the ducks until deer season was over. Luckily, the 4th person on the lease shot his deer Saturday so we got at em a day early!

Great looking bag man. I would just use that place from here on out every year when the hunters get done. Seems like that is a good place to do some easy shootin.
