Went out by myself this morning. Passed up several ducks early because I just can't see very well at twilight.

Around 7:30 I'm starting to think I will be skunked again when a single drake comes in and commits suicide. Sat for another 30 minutes without anything flying when a pair of mallards come in and I get another drake.

Then I have a gadwall hen put down on the water and I see a group of birds circle, I get them to swing close and I drop another drake. I probably should have doubled on this group but I only shot once for some reason.

So here I am with 3 mallard drakes and I start to think I may be able to get 5 greenheads.

About that time a single green wing comes in and I get him.

Then a gadwall drake comes in and I couldn't help myself.

So I'm one bird away from my limit and another pair of mallards come in but swing a little wide. I probably could have gotten the drake but didn't want to chance it and screw up a good day with losing a cripple.

I yelled at them and they got up and went away. Missed my chance.

I looked up and a big group of teal were buzzing around and they came so close I decided to end it.

Finished at 9:20.

Great day up

Nice hunt. I like your style...passing on a duck you really want because of a low percentage shot. I'm not a big fan of crippling ducks either.

Good Job man that kinda thinking is what ensures our future a spot for waterfowling! After the split I try not to shoot anything that has a lower limit than 5 just to help the population out. For sure no Canavasback.
