If it hadn't been so screwed up I'd probably have left it pretty much alone! Granted the muzzle brake would probably have happened anyway. And after the sight in moved on me one year I decided bedding was mandatory. I've pretty much thrown in the towel on most rifles that are in a wood stock that bedding is a must. My old Colt Sauer 7 mag came with a nice stock but it even moved a bit on me. So it got a Mickey and was bedded. Now it's not going anywhere either. Plus the stock was too darn nice to keep dragging out into the weather.

Picked up a Blaser R93 this year in 270 Wby mag and found that the way it recoils you don't lose the sight picture. Tickled the heck out of me because I really didn't want to add to the lenght of the barrel. And BTW it's still just as it was 'out of the box'... up

I've got to run and take care of some nursing home stuff for my mother but if you want I can snap a pic or two when I get back. I bought it for the LA 270. Always thought that the LAs were the long which covered both standard and magnum? I recall the BDL I put on the 300 Ultra was a standard and it fit... Honestly don't know much about what's different on their rifles so don't want to mislead or say something is what it isn't.

It's the raw un-inletted that Ed Brown used on his Damara rifles. It can be inletted for just about anything. I called McMillan before buying it and they said it could be made to fit the DBM I have or the ADL, BDL. They get $125 to inlet it for whatever rifle you want. BTW Brown quit making his Damara rifles. Seems the economy probably put a damper on that.

This week has been so fun. So many battles of the bolt action have came to life.

To be honest I've only ever had one in anything over .22 It was the VTR I bought last month. I'm just in for the popcorn

And HSOs (P1s should get that)

Reticle?

Got 2 of those with the TDS reticles. One on the 7 mag and the other on the 300 Wby. Probably reuse the one on the 300 wby when the R8 Blaser comes in. I won't be getting rid of the old PH 4-16s. They were really good scopes and compared to the price of the new Z6s they're just as good IMO. Only got one Zeiss... Swarovskis are lighter and to my eyes brighter. Plus the FOV is as good as it gets.

Then you should look into the Savages! I hear they are real special in both of those catagories!

My Icon is out of the box! Period. Other than a scope and rings it's just like the way it came. Comes with an aluminum bedding block in the Hogue stock so that's taken care of too.

I've also got a Tikka SS in 270 that's right out of the box. Haven't shot it yet but it should be ok. And a Sako A7 that's almost right out of the box... had it bedded but that's it.

All depends on the 'box'.... scratch

I've got an xcr that's basically out of the box, it shoots pretty good.

I really don't want to come across as being against the gun itself. The main issue quite a few of us have with Remington is the fact that now it's a gamble where Remington WAS the one gun for many years that could be counted on to shoot 'lights out' right out of the box. I could care less about the safety debate. There may be some validity to it and it might all be lawyer BS. Over the years I sent many a person to Remington for their hunting rifles. The problem is seeing an American company take shortcuts when they don't have to. Also putting out 'intro' models that are just not up to the 700 standards isn't helping their reputation. When people like your product they tell their friends. When they don't like it they tell everybody. Granted they're selling them via Walmart and other discounters which is a double edged sword. On one hand you're allowing the guy who doesn't have deep pockets to get your rifle and on the other you're cheapening your product. I know several gunsmiths/gunshops that will rebuild your 700 and if you want one of their higher level guns they'll order them but they won't stock them because they simply can't compete with Wally. In the end it'll all work out one way or the other. I personally can't wait till they're under new owners who are sportsmen and shooters.

I didn't like that they discontinued the xcr...reason being was, you could get an sps that looked just like them at a lot lower cost, so they just weren't selling. I don't like going cheap on rifles unless it's just one to fill the space in a safe, but nothing wrong with the upper end remmys.
