I am not really a hard core hog hunter, but when one presents itself during a deer hunt sometimes I can't resist. I stuck this 200 lb sow Friday while deer hunting in Baylor County (they have some big pigs in Baylor County). She was interfering with my deer hunt, so I needed to move her out of the way. Stuck her with a 100 grain Muzzy broadhead from my Mathews Z7 bow. She weighed 200 lbs and I have to say it was alot of fun shooting her. I might go on more dedicated hog hunts after this.

i was gonna say as well. i see a weenie on that sow. i had a cousin one time that shot a big hog outa one of our stands down south. he texted me that he'd shot a huge sow. i was excited because i was thinking huge BBQ. but when i got over to the stand i could see the sack on that boar from 90yds. it was a very well endowed pig. not sure how my cousin thought he'd shot a sow. pig may as well have had antlers.

count me as embarrased. Still not sure what is considered "well endowed" about that pig because it sure wasn't apprarent to me that it was a boar!
I may get more into this pig hunting thing. I finally learned to shoot them a little low behind the shoulder (compared to a deer). I found out on this forumn (bow hunting part) that their lungs and heart sit a little lower in their chest than a deer. Once I started placing the shot a little lower, I started recovering these things alot quicker. They are not easy to track because they don't bleed like a deer!
Of course I have shot a few with a rifle and I found the head works pretty good when using a rifle.
Count me as a still learning pig hunter, but I am really enjoying the challenge of getting a broadhead in one of these things.

That's a huge pig! Congrats! You realize the path you're on now,..right? Pretty soon, the rush of hog hunting will grab ahold of you and 1 year from now you won't be able to tell a 'buck' from a 'doe' you'll be sooooo into pig hunting!
Think about this: You can hunt those big "sows" 24/7/365! No Limit, No Tags, No Size Restrictions, No Bag Limit, You can use lights at night, and with a little asking, you're likely to be able to get on a bunch of land to hunt for FREE because the landowners and farmers hate them so much.
Pretty soon my friend, that hog bug is going to jump up and bite you!

I know where you are coming from Silverboar. I never really understood the love of pig hunting by some of my buddies, but once I started this bow hunting thing I am getting really into it. We are going back out to Baylor County on Friday for a deer hunt, but I am catching myself thinking about sticking another big hog during the "deer" hunt.
I would encourage anyone just getting started into pig hunting to read this forum. It has really helped me out alot and like I said before, I never would have known about the proper shot placement on these hogs if I had not read about it on this forum.
This is NOT deer hunting and you have to shoot these beasts different than you would a deer.
This is also a great way to keep your bow hunting skills sharp all during the year. Shooting at these live hogs sure beats shooting on a 3D range.
Hopefully I'll have another big one this weekend (along with a nice 10 pt. buck).

Nice Hog! I know exactly what everyone is talking about as far as being hooked. I'm almost at the point of thinking hog hunting is as much fun, if not more, than deer and like the post above said, it's a 24/7/365 way of hunting!
