Wait until both legs are lined up then take out both knees with one shot, then run up to the deer (while screeming, of course) and stab through the heart with bayonet.

It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

Pimp, just shoot em in the boiler room (heart/lungs) they won't go far, and you'll be able to find them, and if you can't, I'll bring some help.

Shoot em right where the poop comes out. thats the "Texas Heart Shot". No shoulders will be harmed in the taking of this shot!
Or....you could just shoot them in the neck.

Head or neck. I shot right behind the front shoulder. they drop right there with good ammo and it does not mess the shoulder up.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

Shoot it 2/3 the way down the body through the chest tight behind the leg. It most likely will run a short distance but it will be dead. Miss a brain or neck shot a little and there is a nasty wound that can lead to no recovery and a slow nasty death for the animal. Most of the shoulder meat is in the upper 2/3 of the body. my 2 cents.

Middle of the body right behind the front shoulder!!! They may go a little bit, but the blood trail will be definitive and the deer will be dead! I've always heard of deer running the farthest from neck shots so I wouldn't invest much trust in a neck shot! The vitals are close to the shoulder so the behind the shoulder shot should take em out for ya with minimal tracking!!! Good luck!!!

What caliber and cartridge are you using?

My son shot a doe, took out both lungs and the darn thing ran almost 300 yards before giving up. 170gr 30-30 made hell of a hole while leaving her body!!!! But still I say go for lungs, big target and they usually dont go too far.

They usually don't go far if you heart shoot them with anything larger than a .243/ If you are farther away than 200 yards, they usually get knocked over by the momentum of the bullet.

Ive always shot does in the neck. It is how my dad taught me to do it and I just carried it on. They dont run when you hit them in the neck. Atleast I have never had one run. I've shot 30 or so deer now in the neck. I used to say the same thing you just said, they drop right there when hit in the neck. Well this year, I shot a doe in the neck, and she managed to run 60 or so yards into the woods. At first I was stunned, thinking I missed. When I went to go look, blood was everywhere. Ended up hitting her and ripping out her entire throat, juggler, etc... Surprised she made it that far. 99% of the time, I will shoot a deer in the neck (Buck or Doe) while using a rifle. Now if I'm archery hunting, I shoot it behind the shoulder (Arrows really don't mess up meat like a bullet).

behind the shoulder is the most text book shot. If a deer is 100 yards or less I go for a neck shot most of the time. I got a new 7mmWSM this year. I have killed three deer with it. 2 neck shots and one heart/lung shot.Shots have been 40-80 yards. All three droped where they were standing. One thing with a neck shot. I like to shoot towards the base of the neck. I think that at some point you could miss the spine if you shoot too close to the head. I love a drop in your tracks shot. Thats why I opt for neck shots most of the time. The real answer to where do I shoot is where a kill shot is presented. I do something different when I need too. sometimes you are only presented with a certain shot. Then you have to make up your mind fast. As long as its a lethal one and I feel good about it I slowly squeeze the trigger.

Never shoot a deer in the neck? What are you basing that on? I think all kids or inexperienced hunters should go for the neck. It is a hit or miss shot with no tracking job. You do not risk pulling your shot a few inches and making a gut shot or any other bad shot placement. Just know with a neck shot the deer will not bleed out as good so you will need to cut the deers throat for proper bleeding. Now with that said if you are shooting a big buck and want a shoulder mount your taxidermist would not like the shot placement it can be fixed just takes more time. I also bow hunt most of the time so behind the shoulder is a must. Rifle always neck shot if it is less than 100 yds. ballistic tips should only be used for neck shots jmo
