Was drivin some back roads after hunting this mornin and came up on a ton of buzzards....

there lied the carcas of a buck (its nuts were there) witha lot of meat still on it, and the head chopped off....

No way was this roadkill since u cant drive more than 15mph on that road w/out ripping the front end out of ur truck....

It looked like they had half way tried to cape the deer... maybe get enough for a shoulder mount? confused2

Kinda ticked me off. Thought about calling the warden...but figrued he probably had his handsfull this weekend.

anyone else seen crap like this pulled, i mean what is so hard about quarterin ur deer out?

Dang poachers!!! And they wasted the meat. You should let the GW know and maybe they can catch them with Operation Game Thief and that fake deer and have a cool video of some idiots shooting at it before they go to jail.

idk if these were the kinda poachers that were shooting off the roads... im thinkin it was someone hunting (probably legaly) killed a deer on their place, then cut the head off, then dumped the deer on that back road.... (the road i was on gets maybe 3-4 cars a day depending on how many times the guy that lives at the end of it drives down it....

I also just have this thing about calling a gw over to my hunting area... im not breaking the law, but i sure dont want to be hassled all the time...

I wouldn't have called them either unless its a pattern on the same road. waste of their time, especially on opening weekend

That sucks. It is idiots like that that disrespect the sport and the animal. That give hunting and hunters a bad name. It is a shame.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

POS poachers- hunters or whatever, if you waste meat for nothing you need to be shipped to Darfur and see how much you can waste there before youre wasted...a hole

I think you should call your GW and get to know him/her. You'll find that they can be tremendous assets. I used to feel the same as you, but have completely changed my opinion on the matter.

GW's are the number 1 ally of the legal hunter.

I don't understand the glory a poacher gets from illegally taking a deer... Definately report it to the GW. They need to know.

We have always encouraged the local warden to come in anytime! As lease manager, I want him to know me and our members and to know that if anything comes up I'll let him know. Calls are put in when we are going to do spotlight counts, or any activity at night that could be construed as suspect. We have never been hassled, and over the last 13 years we've been randomly checked 3 times.

Still, it often seems like the road hunters go unchecked and they (game wardens) come into camp and check the legal, or at least making an honest effort to be legal, hunters.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

Never hesitate to call a warden....more than likely he already knows where you hunt!

Deer heads and horns are like drugs. Until you take away the demand for antlers there will always be poachers chopping heads off. They most likely know the area well and decided it was best just to take the head. It may also be they only market heads.

I was hunting Sat. evening and saw a truck stop down by the creek that runs through my place. I couldn't tell what brand or color but could see someone get our and walk around it. I thought maybe they were poaching but never heard a shot. After dark I drove down to the creek to see if I could find anything because a second truck stopped there about 30 mins later. I found a dead beaver in a plastic bag. I didn't call the GW because I didn't have a LP# to give him. At least it wasn't a deer.

Follow the money. It cost too much for a lot of folks to hunt legally these days.

I wouldn't be surprised if your inclination about the deer being harvested legally and then illegally dumped are right. I've heard plenty of stories about people just not really caring about the meat or being too lazy to do anything with it and just dumping the carcass.

There are a lot of people in this state that can take more deer than they can possibly eat. Or even something more benign like the deer not being found for too long to keep the meat.
