there is a series of pic's that shows a grasshopper caught in the web and the spider wrapping it up. Kinda cool but also irritating.

Spike Slayer, welcome to the forum despite your obnoxious start. Genetics are funny things. Many areas of the state have high/narrow genetics. My lease in the late 90's and early this decade was like that. You would find 14 inch Whitetails with tremendous G-2's. You are stuck with the genetics of your area and you can only improve them over time, possibly, by selective harvest. If there was one 18 inch buck and 10 14 inch bucks, doesn't it makes sense to leave the 18 inch for a couple of years and shoot the smaller ones?

PERSPECTIVE. Doing what you are doing only works if he is right in line with the fence. He is standing in front of this. Best perspective on a deer is his ears.

and even in that pic it will be off b/c they are closer to the cam than his horns. In person it always seems a deer with his ears pinned back ends up being narrower than he looks. In a picture it seems opposite.

for instance.....

Shoot the buck if you want. I would, after verifying he is in fact legal (by actually seeing him with my own eyes).

As for the SpikeSlayer, nice way to introduce yourself to the forum. Good luck with that approach. And I'll meet you on the "pumble" field any day.

I also just love how a simple question asked by someone always turns into a debate about the age of a freakin' deer. I wish everyone would realize that to most of us, it's not always about shooting the biggest buck in the county. If that's your thing, then great for you. But I'm about sick of other hunters trying to tell me how I need to judge my deer to meet their own criteria. If someone is legal, which is what the OP is trying to make sure of, then leave them alone to hunt how they choose. I like to take mature deer too. But I'll be danged if I'm gonna try to impose my own criteria on what another hunter might consider a trophy deer. A trophy by "their" standards, not mine, your's, or any stupid record book's.

I know it has a lot to do with the type of hunters your around, but let's not be so quick to shoot the first thing with four legs public land.

Or so quick to judge others based on where they hunt, east, west, south, or Public......

Yet your handle is "Spike Slayer" rofl
If it's legal and someone shoots it, you have no right to gripe.

A no brainer in my area. Shooter for sure. If that's a nice buck to you then take him. Ask your fellow leasers if you have any though.

Ok, how do I delete myself? Some of you guys are a little sensitive. Don't want to make anyone else cry.

Just for the record, the guy I was previously ragging on in my first post was a co-worker who I was just joking around with. Sorry again if I offended anyone, look forward to more great information.
