My 13 year old son and I recently got involved in duck hunting. We are hooked. Can someone direct me to some locations within the TPWD public lands where I may be able to hunt. Currently, I have no access to a lease property. I am not sure what I have to do beyond acquiring the public land permit. My son got two trophy mounts last season and now it is my turn to put one on the wall. We are experienced shooters and belong to Arlington Sportsmans Club. Thanks

Your APH map booklet will show you a bunch of places you can hunt, most are pretty straightforward but you do need to read each page before you visit each different place, they all have different regs. Some you can hunt only dove on. Some are closed certain days of the week or certain dates.
Once the booklet comes it will be pretty obvious to you.

The other thing you can do it find out who is the authority of the lake you want to hunt and call them and find out if they allow hunting on that lake. All that information is available on the TPWD website...I normally look at the "where to fish" and then make some calls. Every person I have called has been really nice regardless of whether I got the answer I was looking for ![wink wink](/forum/images/graemlins/default/wink.gif) Good luck this season.

"My son got two trophy mounts last season"
Hmmmm....maybe go back to where you were last season? That might be your best bet.

Thanks for the replys. Keep them coming if you can suggest a particular location that may be on the easy side to locate and access. He got his ducks in Stephenville but my access is limited to maybe once a season.

All the contact information is available on the forum also. http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/348583As said, read close the rules for each hunting area. Some have rules that vary greatly. Some require permits. Spend some time following those links and using the contact information and you should find you have plenty of places to hunt within a short driving radius around you.
