Well the D means it was made in September, if this is a post 1921 gun. (happy birthday to your gun!). There should be a letter after the D. Example; DB = September 1933. (see this link: http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes )

D 136 isn't standard after 1921. Keep looking for a 2 letter combination. It should be on the left side of the barrel just above the forearm, next to the frame. About 1/2 inch from the frame.

Remington (unlike Iver Johnson and some others) were meticulous about their markings, so the markings should be there.

Look for DG or DX or DY or Dsomething on the barrel and the frame.

2 questions:
a) Where exactly is the D 136 stamped? (please don't say "barrel, near the frame". say exactly where on the barrel and from a 360 degree perspective). Pictures would help tremendously.
b) The serial number is just below the words "Remington Model 11" on the left side of the frame. What is that number?

On a personal note: Model 11 shotguns swing and sing like a flapper dancing at the speakeasy on a Saturday night...

His gun was made prior to 1921, probably around 1918-1917, he has a sub 199611 serial number which is listed as Sept 1919, it has the suicide safety and looks period correct down to the screws and wood, has a really nice patina, but is smooth out of bluing

Predator Control,
I don't see a picture on the page. How do you know it "looks period correct down to the screws and wood" ?

Just asking....as I don't see a picture of the gun on the page.
How are you able to tell this?

OY stamped on the barrel, Yep that's July 1930.
Tell me, is the forearm 'beavertail' style? Meaning, is it pretty BIG for a forearm? (smaller near the barrel and huge where your hand goes) They were making beavertail forearms for the first set of Model 11's in 20ga.

If so, can you post a picture of the forearm up here from a couple of angles?
