The last few weeks i've gotten into making lanyards and game tote's with paracord. I wanted to make a lanyard that could hold a fair amount of calls, but not so many that they start getting in the way...i think 3 or 4 plus a whistle is ideal. However I have a few more calls than that because I am somewhat of a call junky...i can't have enough (even though I know I dont need any more)....my point is I have been trying to figure out away that my calls can be very secure but at the same time be easily changed for each hunt, or even mid hunt...I'm sure someone has done this before but i haven't seen it and this is what I came up with... The first thing I did was just make a normal lanyard with a cobra stitch but left out any drops for now... Next I did a two 3" sections of cobra stitching (in the black circles in the picture) on each side of the lanyard (total of 4) over the original on each side and slipped a piece of paracord into the side of the stitch then tightened as much as possible to keep it secure: I prefer all my calls to have two slip knots on it to make sure I dont lose one. I took one piece of cord and tied a slip knot on each end to create this (i did this on all my calls): Next I took the piece of cord that I had slipped into the second cobra stitching and tied both ends together...in this picture I just used a square knot but i go back and melt the ends of knot to keep any change of it coming undone: From here it easy to see that you can quickly and easily exchange calls on and off your lanyard without sacrificing any security by simply tying the following knot: With this setup I can change my calls very quickly and not worry about a knot coming undone... Thoughts?...

I made mine where I can clip new ones on or off with little whistle clips, I'll have to try to find a pic somewhere.

I thought about using clips but was too lazy to go to the store but too anxious to wait....seems like it's going to work out

Nice ideas turned into innovations. Keep it up. I like to keep it simple and I have to have a loop on both ends of the call as well. I have seen too many people lose the insert to that one-in-a-million duck call. I do keep an extra call with me but I hate having a bunch of stuff dangling from my next as I prefer to walk and wade in to hide even when hunting out of a boat.

Hey quackstacker- TopH20's lanyard looks real good but i dont think its a cobra stitch. There are many different ways to tie them. I am not sure what stitch he used. I prefer the cobra stitch...It is very simply because there is a website with very detailed step by step instructions and pictures to go along with it...on the website he is making little plastic bracelets but if you go out and buy paracord which is found at any army navy store or can be purchased online and you can make one. Make sure you click on the starter stitch when you start. The instructions are not showing you how to make a lanyard, but the only part that is different is tying it together at the end. There are several ways to tie the ends together, but I think the easiest way is is the way someone showed me on this forum just last week: "when you do a cobra braid and you have everything finished except 1/2 inch untie the beginning and overlap the middle then finish the two together heat up the tips and smash them with the lighter to get a flat spot and keep it from unraveling." (thanks favrefire) I built on his advice and instead of a 1/2 inch i left about 2 feet of the two cords that run down the middle and that way I had two built in drops, just tie hangmans noose's the your desired length and cut the extra off and melt the ends. For the other drops you can just tie a hangmans noose to where you want it to attach. The best thing to do is experiment yourself. Paracord is pretty cheap, if you can find it at a store than I would start off buying 2 100 foot sets, if you are ordering it online I'd double it just becase of shipping costs etc... sorry I'm so long winded, i just got into this lanyard stuff the last month and have used it to help with my hunting offseasin itch... Here is the link to use to tie the cobra stitch: http://www.boondoggleman.com/prj_cobra_stitch.htmHere are some other sites to look at to give you some more ideas: http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/lanyard-instructions.php
