Well took some exams this week and I had today off. I went and scouted yesterday after school and found a pond that usually has some birds but it was loaded this time. About 100 mallards some teal, gadwall, and pintail. Decide to hunt there this morning and get out there and set 2 dozen mallard full bodies out and a few floaters. Get set up and as we are grassing the blinds we have have 30 ducks come in. Mostly mallards. Then we continue to grass and we had about 75 ducks on the water about 15 minutes before shooting time. Anyways they get up and leave and then we have some start to filter back in. We manage to scratch a limit. We saw A LOT of ducks actually probably the most I have seen out there before. We also saw a single speck fly over but he was not interested. I also shot my first band today, greenhead!!! I could not believe it when I saw it. My friend and I did not know who shot it though because my dog was just dropping them in a pile and getting more. Anyways figure out that I shot it because he only killed one greenhead on the water about 10 yards away and there was only one duck with a BIG hole in it so we think that was his. The other two were mine and the one had a band! A very special hunt today!

Congrats on the band and the great hunt. But if you apply the duck hunting rules to your hunt you cannot claim the band. To claim it you would have had to shot it and retrive it by means of yourself or dog and then you would have been 100% sure that it was yours. Sorry to have to break the news to you but you only have 50% of the band.

congrats.

I lost a chance at my first band that way. A buddy and I shot at the same duck, but he and his dog retrieved and sure enough it was banded. Could not argue at that point.

It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

Congrats on the band. Wonder how many more ducks it will take for me or my buds? Still none ever.

I've killed over 3,000 ducks personally and just got my first band during Early Teal Season.

This year my group has killed 321 ducks and have taken 2 bands. 1 banded blue wing I killed during early season and 1 banded grey duck killed by cooter last Sunday.

Getting bands is about location and a lot of luck!

Congrats. Let us know where the bird was banded. Excellent pics. Perhaps we need a topic/subject of banded birds after the season is over.
Hhmmmm..., that would be depressing to some people.

Congrats on the band!!! I remember my first one - when I noticed it I started yelling across the pond like a little girl. hahahahaha. I must say not knowing for sure who shot it, takes some of the excitement away. Just make sure when your talking about it that you say it "probably" was shot by you.

Why the hell should I have to press 1 for English!!??
