I found a site on hog snaring looks cool and a lot cheaper than cage traps. I am thinking about trying it out Does anyone have any tips on it.

be carful with it as it is not a selective way of traping... what I mean is you cant control what getts caught deer, and other critter have a chance of being snared as well as your intended target hogs...

never snared anything that big. But interested to know how it turns out for you.

if their are deer in the area use deer stops on your snares. use 1/8 inch cable with berkshire slide lock. dont set them on trail under a fence unless you want the fence destroyed. most hogs will still be alive when you get their. back your truck up to them get in the back and throw a lasso over them tie it off to your truck flip them over and tie up the legs.

if you catch it you just shoot it before you walk up.

I'd really advise against snares. Seen what it can do to non-target species (like deer, dog's, cattle). Just a bad idea all around in this part of the country.

In Africa snares are considered a poachers trap. Get caught setting one and you'll go to jail.

I prefer a #16 bear trap with offset jaws

I can attest to the non selective part of using snares. Years ago I had a coyote problem on my place. I set a snare in a hole in the fence that was well used by the yotes. I didn't catch anything for several days. I went out one morning and found what once was a really nice yellow lab in my snare.

I do respect that snares are not selective but so are most any trap. I will have a deer stop on it and there arent many dogs in the area. And plan on having a relaxing lock even though I will loose more this way I think it is better.

if everybody would get there dogs neutered or spayed maybe us trappers wouldnt have a problem catching dogs in snares or footholds. or maybe if people would take responsibility of their **** dogs! i get tired of people whining about the use of snares. get over it, its a very effective way of remove nuisance animals like hogs and coyotes wether you like it or not.

i do agree if your dog is on my ranch he is a dead dog and i would expect the same from you and we have run snares collectivly for yrs starting with my great grandpa handed all the way down to me and in the hill country it is very effective...deer are usually gonna jump a fence....my uncle is a govt trapper in rocksprings tx and has access or use to many options all the way up to the damn cyanide traps and he still prefers a snare

Wow didnt realize ranchers or land owners hated stray dogs so much !!

If I had the room I think I would take in every stay dog I found.

they are a huge prob for ranchersesp sheep and goat ranchers as they are easy prey for a stray dog and once they do it once they aint gonna stop its not so much a hatred forthem as it is a concern for our livestock which is our livelyhood

billies can be mean but dogs see these animals as easy prey we have even had ranch dogs get a wild hair and kill a goat or lamb before and when they do...well you can guess the rest
