A while back JR (from here) saw that we lived close to each other and realized I had been bit by the bug sent me a PM and said if I ever wanted to go to let him know.

I was free this weekend and decided to PM JR and see if he had a spot open. He and his 2 buddies (not on the forum) made room for me.

We met this morning and walked into a spot and got all setup and ready about 30 min until LST. About 10 min later Barney walks up with his two boys and comments about how we beat him there and he was going to have to walk on down the bank. After some aukward silence someone in our group piped up "Yeah, but you can still kill some ducks on the point." This jackarse walks about 50 yards down and sets out his dekes. bang

Well the first two birds to come in were two teal that buzzed the spread and landed. JR called shoot'em boys and half of us didn't know exactly where they were and just as they got up off the water he busts them both with two well placed shots. He sent his dog Jake out and he comes back with it easily. He told his buddy to send his dog because he is working with Jake and honoring another dogs retrieve. Needless to say Jake was none to happy but did as JR wanted smile

We had another group of teal buzz the spread but never got within shooting range. Then another group came in just on the edge of the spread and I think everyone got a shot off with just one bird. Charish (Skip's dog) went out and got his bird and brought it back.

We never had another bird come in and about the time we were talking about picking up and heading home JR pointed out that a mallard was headed from the point out to us. Well it comes right down the bank circles Barney's spread then hovers over the top of him just like a hawk does while hunting a mouse and this jackarse doesn't shoot. The mallard then lands in between our two spreads and barney takes two skillet shots and kills it.

About this time we all realize the bird is to far out and he won't be able to wade out to it and he doesn't have a dog. JR let him go about 10 minutes and Barney gives up and walks back to the bank. JR got to feeling bad about wasting the bird and lets Jake go out and get the bird for him. It was a beautiful greenhead.

Wonder if Barney learned anything???

I think we are going to give it another try Sunday and see if we can't get some more. Good luck guys and be safe. Sorry, no pictures I need to get a camera for the blind bag.

We had a good time despite the lack of birds. I'm sure the cold front on Sunday should kick some down just in time for the split. I'll be out of town for the next two weeks anyway starting Monday.

Yeah, freakin Barney. This is the second day in a row this guy did this to us at the same spot. I was going to say something when I handed him the bird but the look on the faces of them two young bucks stopped me short. I'll pull him aside next time and have a little discussion with him. The killer is, I know the guy knows what he is doing. He sets his decs out right, knows how to blow his calls and seems like a seasoned duck hunter. He just doesn't give a chit. And it was a beautiful Mallard Drake too. In a vindictive sort of mind I was hoping Jake would pick it up by the neck and shake the crap out of it. But I hope he gets it mounted and has to look at it everyday and remember the day he shot a bird and had no way to retrieve it.

Enjoyed the hunt Judd. Lookin forward to a little Whack-n-Stack on Sunday.

Barney sounds like the The A&M of Duck Hunting......Not Quite as good as everybody thought he was.

To enjoy the full experience of public duck hunting, you got to have some kinda barney encounter! You should have least told him 50 is yards too close, too dangerous!! And it sounds like he had kids with him!! hammer

Glad to see ya out shooting some ducks Judd! up
