And had a decent morning. We shot 6 birds. Only missed a couple that came in. The dogs worked great. And guess what.... No whiteface Barney. (we nicknamed him whiteface on top of the obligatory Barney)

Here's Jake, he looked like he'd been to war. I left it on him for a while because I thought it looked cool. We're still working on honoring other dogs retrieves so he's got the leash on. I got tired of picking my chair up out of the lake so he's tied up to the tree next to me when we're in the blind.

And here's the young buck with the birds. He's too young to hunt but never misses an opportunity to come and hang out with us in the blind.

Good times!!

That's my buddy's boy. He's 9. Almost ready to hunt. He's been going to the blind for 3 years. His first bird is gonna be a big deal.

If he is not ready now, he will be soon. Every kid is different. I didn’t let Ryan shoot until he could hold up a 20 gage properly. He just turn 9 I got him a 20 gage for Christmas he was ready, just barely.. He did a couple hunts in January 2007, but it was the following summer hitting some clay and then 2007/08 season before he got his first duck, and amazing how fast they grow, by summer 2008 he started shooting a 12 gauge.

Here is pic of Ryan early 2006 season just before he got his first gun, he loved to go and carry the ducks, that is a great age to take a kid duck hunting.

This is Jakes'(warpaint dog) second season and he is really coming in to his own this year. He's picking up a strange habit lately. He used to whine a little bit during his retrieves but now he's going nuts, barking and whimpering. It's like he can't get there fast enough. Once he has the bird all is good. Is this normal?

Love the warpaint! Jake is a good boy, I get a kick of the dogs that get excited about doing their job.

You didn't paint Tommy's face up for the afternoon gig wink Momma would not have been t pleased. laugh

Every dog is different. I have seen many dogs at the hunt test that whine, cry, bark. I haven't had the problem with my dog so haven't really checked on a solution. I am hunting with one of trainers from my retriever club in the am and will ask him.
