I want to get a similar rifle soon, probably chop down my 26" 308 to 16-18" some day since I have other long range rifles now.

Even still, I might not do it an get a ruger american Hunter in 308. I think when it comes to hunting, especially less than a few hundred yards, 308 may be the best overall choice.

Who did the cut/thread?

I'm really wanting a t3x lite in 6.5 creedmoor cut to 17" and 5/8x24.

I've spoken with 2 different gunsmiths and they feel 9/16x24 is the best route with a adapter. I dont want any adapters.

Measure it...you need a .72X ish shoulder for a 5/8-24 thread. Thunderbeast is a great thread resource for minimums and specs. They have it blocked here at work or I'd post a link to it.

There is the option of making a shoulder...Gavin Toobe on youtube (ultimate reloader) has shown it. I personally wouldn't do it but he tests a lot and says it works.

Another option might be to buy a different endcap on your existing suppressor to 1/2-28...it requires a .600 shoulder if my memory serves me correct...again the Thunderbeast specs will tell you.

I'd be shocked if anyone would cut that thread at 17"...it's less than 1/2 of what spec calls for. Not because it won't work but because of the liability...welcome to a litigious society, this is what some attorneys thrive on.

I’ve got a 16” 308 Sig Cross. I must admit, I enjoy it. Light, AICS mags, folding stock, and shoots bugholes (but only if you’re actually competent with a rifle.) The stock has plenty of adjustments, which is another non-negotiable need for me.

I’ve had high end customs, and the Cross isn’t in that league. But it’s a great rifle for field use. And I hear you on 6 Creed, but 308 ammo is still reasonably priced, and 155 grain pills at 2620 is more than sufficient for thin skinned game within 400 yards (which is as far as most folks have any business attempting)

Kind of like "maximum charge". Is it really? No it's not, not always.

An easy but heavy option is a Steyr THB with the threaded 5/8” 16” barrel in .308. Maybe not for everyone, but I like what I’ve seen so far.

The cross was on my radar at first. I just read so many conflicting reports on accuracy, it kept me from proceeding that direction. It checks alot of boxes for what I want in a short barrel hunting rifle.

A buddy of mine hunts with a 308 Cross. He’s had it awhile and he’s been pretty pleased with it. I had the opportunity to shoot it, shot it one time and knew it was legit. My only very minor complaint, I wish they would’ve incorporated a R700 trigger hanger so a fella could put his favorite trigger in it. The trigger is pretty good and not a reason to stay away from buying one.

Matter of fact a buddy talked my out of my 6 Gaymoor after seeing its performance on an axis doe hunt…I ran across a Cross for a pretty good deal, it’s going to be my next 6 Gaymoor barrel host. Reminds me I need to order that barrel.

i bought the 6.5CM cross for my daughter and i stole it and broke it in on a bear hunt. I enjoy it. Two stage trigger takes sone getting use to but it adjusted down easy enough. The folding stock is very handy, rifle fits “in” a backpack

Mine shoots bugholes with Federal GMM, which is the gold standard. I take all the conflicting reports with a grain of salt, because it is not an easy rifle to shoot well due to the very light weight. It’s a rifle designed to be carried a lot and shot a little.
