Anyone have a dog act perfectly fine? Then collapse in the house, start drooling, defecate themselves 30 minutes later.
He’s at A&M and they are leaning towards it being brought on by Anaphylactic shock. He has not been anywhere for the last few days, and I can not think of anything he could have come into contact with.
He’s had repeated bloodwork, X-rays, and ultrasounds. When we got to A&M with him, he had a very high red blood cell count. After being out IVs that is now closed to normal.
Today slightly elevated liver enzymes, and some thickening of the gallbladder. That is why they think it was possibly a allergic reaction.

I've seen some dogs deteriorate pretty rapidly before. Sounds like you've already gotten him some of the best care possible. Prayers up for you guys.

Thank you. We rushed him there, as soon as it happened. The stomach should be empty at this point, but it was not last night. He’s been at A&M since 10pm on Monday. Depending on what x-ray show this morning. They will either scope the stomach, or do surgery if whatever it is moved to the intestine. He is a dog that will eat stuff he shouldn’t. So it’s possible he could have some sort of obstruction.

They scoped his stomach, and found some cardboard.
They were able to get it out at that time. As long as he does good tonight, and eats in the morning. He will get to come home tomorrow.

They believe it was two separate events. That the cardboard would not have caused that type of reaction. That he just so happened to have eaten it, but went into anaphylactic shock from a allergic reaction to something else. I/they have no idea what he came into contact with. We are just happy, he got to come home last night. His follow up blood work can be done at my regular vet.

Maybe something in the cardboard?

I asked that question, and the vet did not think so.
It was the thin cardboard from a 12 pack of cokes.

There is no rhyme or reason when it comes to what some dogs will eat… glad yours is going to be ok. Whatever it got into, hopefully it learned it’s lesson.

Glad he’s doing better. Sometimes there’s just no good, obvious answer for the things animals do.

I completely agree. If I see the word idiopathic on a dogs paperwork, I know to stop looking for answers.
I’m just happy they were able to save him, and he’s home.

I had a professor that said we use "idiopathic" to mean we feel like an idiot because we can't figure out the answer. roflmao

Glad to hear your pup has recovered. I have a setter that required an emergency vet visit from GE a few years ago. Only thing we could figure was she picked up an intestinal parasite from a drinker a week later while on a trip to Taos, NM it reared its ugly head. Blood-red diarrhea and vomiting anything liquid was quite the scare.

My lab literally just had this happen - perfectly healthy - rushed him in he was in shock - had to stay over night on fluids. Crazy thing is they do not know why or how it happens.

It happens so fast, just glad we both caught it in time.
