From what I've read online. Dog are not allowed on Texas state campgrounds unless you use your on RV. Do any of yal Kno of some good camping areas that dogs are allowed to tag along? Preferably hill country area but doesn't have to be. A campground type would be preferred also for my wife to have some amenities.

They are not allowed in buildings, cabins, yurts, showers, etc

Have to be on a leash...

They can be leashes on any campground. We tent camp and bring ours often.

I’ve camped at state parks before with my dog. They have to be on a leash. Dogs aren’t allowed in buildings in state parks.

I once called to reserve a screen shelter at a Texas State Park and the moment I mentioned I had a dog, they refused to let me reserve it despite me telling them the dog would never be allowed inside and would sleep be a crate outside the door. Once checking in, a friendly employee wanted to see my dog, the moment I walked back into the one room shack, the other employee present immediately sent me back outside stating the no dog rule. Other than drawn hunts I have given up on Texas State Parks for the no dog rules and other reasons. We do almost all of our Camping in Oklahoma now. Oklahoma State parks are much nicer IMO and they are dog friendly. Most of OK you can camp in a cabin or screened shelter with a dog and you can walk into the bathroom or office to check in without them making you put the dog up first. I hunt with my dog on a few Oklahoma State parks as well.

We have an RV, but we take ours all time time and see people in the tent areas with theirs quite a bit. Look at Colorado bend SP. Its one of our favorites for hiking

I have never had a problem in a TX state park regarding my dogs and we camp a lot.I just booked a screen shelter in Garner and told them I had a dog that would be crated outside the shelter and it was not a problem What state park was that at John?

It was caddo. Like the other state park where the employee saw my dog in the truck and asked to see her, but another employee immediately freaked out when I walked in the door, it just depends on who your dealing with. The trick is to use the online reservation and tell no one about the dog when checking in. Most Oklahoma State parks dogs are allowed at screened shelters and cabins and allowed inside. Texas parks have gotten more Urban oriented than other areas and that's ok, but with my kids grown, not my thing anymore. Garner is actually the only state park I have stayed at in the last 5 years. I was Dove hunting nearby and stayed one night. If you go to the online reservation and pick a screened shelter, you will notice on the list at the bottom of the page "Pets - NO". I just ignored that and kept the dog put up when I checked in. The problem with asking is you risk getting the one person that says NO dogs like happened to be at Caddo.

Yeah John my favorite park is robbers cave. Beautiful. The down side of okie state parks is, I've never been to one that I felt the spaces were adequately spaced. Dang near more like an RV park in some.
