A few years back I was visiting my son in McKinney and we went down to the 100 yard range in Garland to shoot. He shot a Rem 700 .270. He loaded a box of shells using old 25-06, 270 and 30-06 brass. The guy next to him got to looking at his set up and said, "holy cow how can you shoot a 25-06, 270 and 30-06 in the same gun". Without skipping a beat he said it was Remington's new 700 Tri-caliber . Said it shot great!

I chucked and went on to shooting. Within minutes half the folks at the gun range were crowding in and staring at his gun and tri-caliber rounds. Absolute amazement from 15 or 20 people trying to get a look. I'm thinking holy cow these people don't really believe this and can't be this dumb are they? Then they started asking what other combinations did Remington have, 308, 7mm-08. It was crazy and these people we're in absolute amazement.

One guy said I don't see it on Remington's web site. My son said it's brand new. Gotcha was the reply. Finally the range officer came down to break up the party. The guy on the bench next to us shooting said. "Enough already, you've had your fun! Either you can tell them or I'll tell them but I came here to shoot".

So the range officer shows up just as my son was telling them it was just a .270 loaded with different brass. The crowd broke up and went back to their shooting stalls. The range officer said, are you serious they thought you were shooting a tri-caliber? Yep my son said. He shook his head walking off we have some scary people here.

Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

Been to the Garland range- won't be back... your story is quite hilarious... and indicative of that range!

Here's a true story. In the late 70's I sold a 270 to the dad of a friend. It was scoped and sighted in. The man barely glanced at the gun when he bought it from me. Deer season was coming up and the man decided to go out to the range next to a local lake and see how it shot.

The man reached in the safe and grabbed my friend's (his son's) 30-06 by mistake. He started shooting at a target. He had a friend with him at the range. He shot a few times and not a round was on paper. He was grumbling to his friend that I had cheated him. He shot a couple of times again and his friend standing there told him he was seeing the rounds land in the lake way way out past the backstop. Luckily nobody fishing out there!

The man went home and told his son I had screwed him. His son said, "Dad, that's my 30-06." grin

And on top of that, they determined that the barrel of the 30-06 wasn't damaged. At least that was the last I heard.
