Anyone hunted with longer outdoors? - 02/11/21 08:44 PM

Looking into booking a hunt with him and was wondering if anyone has had first hand experience? Seems like people do well, but thought I'd ask here.

Never hunted with them, but I seen him advertise some good deals. On several Facebook groups there are mixed reviews of Longers Outdoors.

I hunted Pronghorn with him about 10 years ago and did great! Also went offshore fishing with him about three years ago and had a great time. Solid dude.

I think he does lots of put and take.

I have booked a hunt in the past and he did what he said he was. I follow his page on Facebook everyday and have been very impressed with his grittyness and hard work. MAP If it were recently that you are talking about, I know he has been working tirelessly
at the ranch with broken equiptment and many dead animals.

I spoke to him about a sika deer hunt a few years ago and I felt that he wasn't being truthful to me on the animals that he had available. He was really pushing some some sika that he said would be at the top of the record book, but they looked like young red deer to me. I'm not interested in the record book, I just want a mature, quality trophy. It just went downhill from there, with our last conversation being about what an a hole I was, along with some anger issues that he felt he needed to share with me.

I have not hunted with him and now would not ever hunt with him. As several have said he is abrasive and extremely rude. Try to ask a question any question and you will see this come out. I am not a tire kicker far from it. I have hunted 48 different big games species and with probably 50 different outfitters/ranches, but I will ask a question or two before handing over $2000-$4000 to make sure what I am signing up for. That does not fly with him.

You get info on his terms and book on his terms period. Don’t do that and you will are in for a keyboard lashing.

Good to know - there’s enough guides out there. I don’t want an abrasive one

Booked an offshore red snapper trip with him a couple of years ago. Last minute, he says he had boat issues. May honestly have been the case, but just got a bad vibe during our conversation. Story kept changing, and I decided not to try and rebook. Asked for my deposit back, and had to hassle him over several weeks before I got it back. Won’t make that mistake again.

If you are asking about “Captain” Ryan Longer I would find another outfitter. I had a good duck hunt on the coast with him several years ago. It was a perfectly acceptable hunt. This positive experience lead me to book an axis hunt with him...that’s where things went downhill.

I drove to South Texas to meet Ryan and he no showed. No call. No text. No response. No apology. I drove one-way 5 hours to hunt an axis and all I ended up with was an Allsup’s burrito. Not sure if his ranch owner flaked, he found someone willing to pay more for a hunt that weekend, or if he was just over-served the night before, but for a guide to flake without any communication lands them permanently on the bad list. Two weeks after my scheduled hunt a female supposedly working for Longer Outdoors called attempting to reschedule my hunt. I may have been less than a gentleman telling her where she and the “Captain” could shove their axis.

Well you guys have pretty well summed up what I've heard about him. I never booked with him, and never will.

No this was over a year ago, nothing to do with that

He was very short and rude after 2 questions. He seems like the type who tries to be the middle man alot, offering hunts/animals that other people have and try to make a little commision off of it....its annoying to try and book a hunt and have 3 different people/ranches involved all trying to make a few bucks on the mark up.

I have personally hunted with Ryan Longer several times over the last 6+ years. Most recently in December, I had a hunt booked with another outfitter in deep south Texas. We were driving from Washington State to hunt with HFF. Sadly HFF needed to cancel less then 12 hours before we were scheduled to leave. On short notice Ryan never hesitated, he said "come on down, we will make it work." Just a short 32 hour drive later we arrived. Ryan showed us a great time. I took a beautiful 40 inch scimitar Oryx, He showed us a great time and really pulled us out of a bad spot.
Over the years I have taken several gold medal axis, a stunning red stag, two bison and a record book water buffalo with Ryan Longer as well as countless hogs. Even as I type this I am packed to fly back to Texas next Sunday with 7 of my good friends for what I whole heartedly expect to be a fantastic hunt/adventure with Longer's Outdoors.
While I can not speak to the experiences of others, for me Longer's Outdoors and Ryan Longer have been extremely good to deal with and have always went above and beyond.

As was previously mentioned he doesnt like to be questioned. I had a facebook exchange with him several years ago. His true colors came out pretty quick. He didnt like me showing him in black and white what he had said previously. I told him, those are your words not mine. From that I knew all I needed to know........never would book a hunt with the guy based off that one exchange as there are too many choices out there. I hunt all over and like to do my due diligence before booking a hunt. Just part of the process.

I am not and never have been a customer of Longer. I don't need him. With this said, it looks like too many believe outfitters should be eloquent and the end all of end alls. Takes a certain mindset to put up with too many of the customers who are oppressively over expectant idjits who oftentimes cannot deliver themselves. Never did the booking or any customer interaction until they showed up, but I can relay numerous historical "perspectives".

Ryan, a former renter of mine, has come a long way. He has been blessed with a tremendous hunting and fishing business which others covet. There must be a reason..

I can definitely agree with Hudbone on this! Never hunted with Ryan Longer, but he sure seems to put people on some really nice animals. I couldn't imagine dealing with the general public like he does. Which is probably why i am not in the customer service business.
