40" Axis

Posted By: TexFlip

40" Axis - 09/12/18 09:10 AM

Does anyone have proof of a 40" or over axis being taken or darted and measured? By proof I mean official score card or picture/video evidence of the measuring.

If you stay on a forum long enough you get to see the same thing brought up 100s of times...sometimes by the same person.

There was one guy that posted this question like 20 times...never did see the pic.

Shoot, the guys I know see them 48" tall with 14 points all of the time. Of course they exaggerate a bit.

Re: 40" Axis - 09/12/18 04:45 PM

I doubt it's 40" but this one is impressive.

#8 in the world, 37".

Rowland-Ward has an entry of 44" but it dates to 1877 so who knows.

Re: 40" Axis - 09/13/18 04:06 AM

I'm not shopping for a hunt. Just would like to see proof of a 40" axis. Many claims to have one but I haven't seen a tape on a 40 incher.

Re: 40" Axis - 09/13/18 04:50 PM

Not trying to sell one, we found one side to this old axis last year, ill dig it out of the antler box and put a tape on it, stand by.

This fella was in Menard county, low fence, and I chased him all season. Never could get an arrow into him and put a tape on him.

I shot one a couple weeks ago with a 37" inside spread.

Re: 40" Axis - 09/13/18 10:01 PM

I just knew this one would be pushing 40" but he taped just north of 36.5".

Re: 40" Axis - 09/14/18 03:07 PM

This one went up on one of the Facebook hunting groups a while back. If I recall they said it taped out at 40" but I dont recall any pics to prove it. I have my doubts.

[quote=QuitShootinYoungBucks]#8 in the world, 37".

This axis has long beams but no tine length doubt he would even go 160", you have to make 170" to make books.

33.5"?

Re: 40" Axis - 10/11/18 01:22 AM

Steve he is about 35 but I didn't measure him before I left. He's a hell of a buck but no where near 40".
I should get the mount back on him this fall and I'll measure him then! The first and second photo are of him before I shot him.

Thanks Steve. I had a PM about why I didn't measure him and score him. The score is what it is. If I like the way he looks I'll shoot him and if I don't I wont.
