YO auction this year? - 02/11/15 01:15 PM

Is the YO going to have an exotic game auction this April? Looked on their web site and all it list is for last year.

The families have split the ranch up which complicates things further but i am friends with one of the daughters and will ask. I thought that the last one was it but there is no telling.

Seems like things are falling apart even more with Walter gone

At least it wont sell anytime soon. Seems to be overpriced at $75 million.

$75,000,000 divided by 29,000 acres is about 2600 per acre .... with all the improvements and animals is that overpriced in that area ...or is it just a big amount to find a willing/wanting buyer ......just curious

Re: YO auction this year? - 02/13/15 03:29 AM

I can't see anyone or group buying it. And I don't see how the individuals wanting to divide it agreeing on how to do that. I would think the only way would be to start splitting it up and selling parts of it like they have been doing in the past. Also I can see why the individuals would want to get out from under it. For the size of the place and the upkeep it must take it can't be making any real money. They can't even fix the crappy road going to the head quarters.

Asking price and sales price can be very far apart sometimes.....

Re: YO auction this year? - 02/13/15 06:01 AM

I'm not an expert, but from my understanding is that, some some of the things the did over the years like the condo/pud devevelopment, keep it from being a straight forward land sale. The added complexities and legal issues make things difficult. If it was a straight land deal it could be split into 5 or 6 pieces and already sold.

Re: YO auction this year? - 02/13/15 12:58 PM

Zack can check with Tessa for sure, but one of the guides from there told me in December that it had already sold down to 18,000 acres with a pending sale on ~ 4,000 more, and that the 4 principles were going to have to split the rest and find their own path after that.

The assumption was that there won't be another auction. If you were at the last one (I was), it was not as well attended and fewer animals than in the past. FWIW.

Sad all the way around.

Yes I went to the one in the fall. I also noticed the lack of bidders and animals. I go to see what the Ibex prices are like and to see some individuals that I only usually see there. Only a couple of Ibex kids sold and did not see the people I usually visit with. Yes it is a shame.

I was hoping to hit the $500MM PowerBall and start negotiating for it all. It would have been easy to lease out portions, continue hunts and I would have set up a section that was kids only hunts.

It would have been great to have a piece of Texas history and try to continue the legacy.

You and I have attended several auctions together but you've never introduced yourself. My only legitimate assumption I guess is that you have higher standards than to associate with the likes of me. Kinda hurts my feelings a little.

I gave up introducing myself to all the old codgers after several told me they weren't you. I think one or two of them might have been you but you just fibbed to me to avoid me.

See, there my feelings are hurt again....

wink

Wish I would have known Don was there too. To be there with two THF legends would have been surreal!

Legends in our own minds. No wonder you could not find me if you were looking for old codgers Rancher. I am only 68.

68 is old. Or at least I thought so until I hit the half century mark. Now I hope I make it that long to see my grandson graduate high school.

Somebody needs to build a big barn on their place and take the auction over, I need something to look forward to every October and April!

In our own minds for sure Don, and we're easily impressed.

We are good people. I don't understand why we are treated as outcasts.

I haven't heard anything about the YO Sale but I'm going to ask around at the EWA video auction in March.

Re: YO auction this year? - 02/14/15 04:31 AM

I used to think that when they put it up for sale a couple years back.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs and I don't think it will ever rise from ashes like a Phoenix. It's too screwed up.

The infrastructure of the place probably needs $8,000,000 to rebuild it to a show place.

Too many hands in the cookie jar for too long. Pretty sad, they aren't the only ranching family to have this happen. Far from it.

My great grandfather built a ranch in the 1920's near Dubois, Wyoming. By the early 1970's it had been chopped and sold by the ten kids, and 30 grand kids until nothing remained.

The gal that drove us around on our exotic animal tour (my family had a great time) regardless of the shape of the place. She was a nice lady in her 50's I don't know her name. Anyway, it seemed like the staff was damn near working for free to keep it alive.

Roo What the hell are you doing in the desert? Where at in the Mojave? We took the plane to Mojave several times for inspections. The hanger was next to ones where they were working on Space Ship One. A wild looking mother ship.

Hey Zach, heard anything??

Re: YO auction this year? - 02/21/15 11:51 PM

Rusty,

There is not one scheduled currently and they have no plans to do so right now as everyone is still sorting out what each family wants to do.

That is not to say they won't end up having one last minute but certainly does not appear so. Everything is all over the place since they decided to allow the four families to each take a section as they will have a much easier time selling than selling the entire thing as a whole. Especially since any sell would not include naming rights.

Thanks Zach. The EWA has an ad for both the April and October 2015 auctions. I told my buddy that it wasn't happening, he used the ads to support his argument. We have a pair of boots bet on it. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I think I'm gonna win though.

Re: YO auction this year? - 02/23/15 01:26 PM

It is truly a shame. But unless you are in their shoes you really don't know the circumstances of why and what is going on. I still don't see how they could come to an agreement on how to split it up. I would have thought the Auction twice a year was one of the big money makers for them. $100 a pen for the animals plus 10%. $35 to get in unless you brought animals. The dinner at night could probably been done away with have been done away with. It was a quality Auction with Quality animals for the most past.

I believe that Walter was the driving force behind the auctions, with his passing, there's no one pushing to keep things going.
