Best Species? - 02/21/13 11:46 PM
Well, when I graduate High School, my family is going to move to the Kerrville area of Texas. We will most likely have a ranch of 100 or so acres. What species would be best for the area and ranch size?

Yup. And I was sort of wondering about super exotics?

Blackbuck seem nice, any type of sheep or goats meanwhile.

Axis,
You need to talk to a bunch of hill-country ranchers and find out what's working and what isn't.
I have heard tons of stories of African hoofstock being to fragile for Hill Country winters.

If I wasn't already raising Ibex I would be raising pot belly pigs.

Hey, I had one of them. Girlfriend dressed it all up & wanted it to be a house pet until it rutted up the linoleum floor. Then it got too big to walk, and became friends of a horse following it all over. No more pot-butted pigs.
