Argentina Red Stag low fence? - 06/09/12 01:19 AM

So I have given up on New Zealand Red Stag because it is mostly high fence. Does anyone know about the Argentina Red Stag?

Stags in the pampas tend to be fenced, and in patagonia, they tend to be free range, but there exceptions at both.

I've heard most is high fenced, this from NZ rep at the Safari Club Show. She said really only low fence is public land and you don't see anything getting close to 300.

from what I understand any of the outfitters you actually pay and have websites etc are high fence. it isn't like here where high fence ranches say it, there everyone is, so they don't say it. it also might be 10-20+ square miles of high fence, not little 1 mile sections. TV shows hunting Red Stag NZ and websites don't say anything about it, but that's the way it is.

I've seen some New Zealand hunts on the North Island advertised as low fence to the Australian market. It may be just a few very large stations are the only ones doing it or that Outfiters on the North Island tend to cater to the Australian market.

Most the big Red Stags I see there just have junk going everywhere. Elk seem to be 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 etc. Red Stag may not have the tine length of Elk, but get up over 300 to 400 quickly with all the mass and junk.

My wife and I went to New Zealand in April. I will say this. Those of you planning to go PLEASE do your homework. Especially when it comes to the stag hunting. I was dissappointed in my red stag hunting experience. It was a major let down to me. If anyone wants specific info just pm me. The rest of the hunt was great. Free range fallow hunt was awesome. Almost as hard as my idaho elk hunt. In conclusion, I will go back to new zealand one day possibly for a tahr and chamois but will not be shooting another stag.

Free range in Scotland. They aren't huge but it's the real deal. Different sub species but still awesome hunt

My neighbor had a hunt able herd of red deer, some are in the 300 range

We see a stag maybe once or twice a season, 10 feet into the brush on either side and they are gone forever.

Of course it's not that challenging it being high fenced and all, you should be able to kill 2 or 3 in a day

If you are hunting on an island, it is just like hunting a big high fenced place anyway. It's not like they can escape to Tasmania or New Guinea bolt
