383in Bull Elk

383in Bull Elk - 12/27/11 05:08 PM

Nearly 2 years later finally got him scored by my taxidermist. Ive posted this before but did not think he would score that high. Client of mine took this bull out near Van Horn completely free range in the middle of the desert. Not Bad!
383inches was the final score even after sitting for over a year.

375 is what I scored him at in the hotel room the night after he was killed but might have had a little tape slippage when scoring or just was tired. Which i was for sure.

will see if can post pic using the mobile

A few pics of that bull. The cooler it is in keeping cool is a 150quart cooler. Shortest brow is over 19 inches longest I measures at 20 7/8 of memory is right. I used Audad_Mikes tape on the 375 measurement I came up with that night. The 2 stickers off the G1s were a little over 4 inches each

Re: 383in Bull Elk - 12/28/11 04:10 AM

Those measurements are from memory so confused2 G4s were over 17 inches and the G5s were the shortest at over 11 inches.

Very symetrical also, all tines match on the other side were less than an inch in legnth so deductions would be low. Inside spread a little over 48 inches and main beams I think 54 inches.

Re: 383in Bull Elk - 12/28/11 01:41 PM

Mike does that qualify for BC since it was taken free range???

Re: 383in Bull Elk - 12/28/11 02:33 PM

No elk in Texas qualify for B&C. Texas classified all elk as exotics and B&C does not reconize exocits. They do reconize there are free range elk in Texas but not for the books.

Re: 383in Bull Elk - 12/28/11 03:32 PM

True. There was a 400 class bull kiled not far from Alpine that does not qualify

Man thats a hell of an animal! I can imagine the guy who killed it probably couldn't take his eyes off that rack for a while! Excellent.

Re: 383in Bull Elk - 12/29/11 01:35 PM

I had the hotelroom by myself. The hunter that got the elk had his brother sharing the room so I dad more room in mine with only one persons gear in it. Not even my elk but not sure how many times I woke up that night staring at it.

I still stare at that thing in the photos I have. I wish it could go in the books and it is a bummer it cant.

Re: 383in Bull Elk - 12/30/11 11:22 AM

The rules from B&C is that the state or province run a hunting season. So elk in Saskatchewan and Texas are not eligible in the Boone and Crocket.
