Years ago did a turkey hunt on WMA.
Walked down high-line, eased inta woods ta right..
Didnt have decoy, just mouth call.
Started calling. After awhile got responce...
Its went on for half hour or so.. sounded back other side of high-line.
Finaly eased twards sound, it was hung up..
Got ta high-line, Seen second hunter. Asked if he'd seen heard any thing.
Short of it, bang think we was calling each other... rofl
Did one or two other hunts.

Preasent day ...
Did few hunts last year, seen few toms, nothing with-in range.
Hunting with bro, he has taken few toms.
This year first hunt, (general hunting) section..
Had jake roughly 80yrds, edge tree line, didnt get closer.
When leaving had nice tom, sneak up from behind blind, spook as gdtting out.
Yesterday had toms gobbling, 3-4 did lots calling, yet nothing close.
This morning, didnt call much, yet heard several birds gobbling, they eased further away.

confused2 is it best ta try call if they moving away ? Can ya call to much ?
Have heard several theories... whats best, each time (situation) tis differant.
Looking for in-put...
cheers Thanks in advance...

Yes you can call too much. In nature the hen is supposed to go to the Tom, not the Tom to the hen. If you call too much they will just sit and wait for the gal to show up.

No yelps only here. When I used to do it, I would call frequently until I found a response gobble. Wait two minutes and then yelp again. Upon that 2nd response gobble, I would only yelp again every four minutes or so - just to keep them interested. Have patience. Nothing like staring at them within ten yards and being able to hear then when they puff up. It's a whole lot o' awesomeness.

Colt, It might take 30 min. for them to show up. Kind a like calling cats. Find where they are roosting and make a couple soft calls, if they answer, don"t call again. If you hear them going in the wrong direction, call a couple times. If they go on, go back about 1 hr before dark, about 50 yds from their roost and call only a couple times and wait. Good luck and let us know how you do!
What type call you using? I have killed a lot of turkeys with a Lynch fool proof box call.
This is about 1/3 of my kills. I use most of the turkey for food and projects! [Linked Image]
