Re: Opening Morning COVID-19 - 03/21/20 04:33 PM

I've killed two already. One triple beard. Had one slip in behind me this am right off roost and couldnt shoot him. Then had two come to dekes and I killed one of those. Then called in two more but the other two had whooped the decoy and knocked it over a bit and and they hung up about 80 yds out. Then had another bird start gobbling...think it was the one I killed buddy. Made a move called him in and killed him. He was the triple beard. Now I'm sitting in the GB on a field because its flooding. Been dead for the last 3 hours.

I decided not to go this weekend because of the weather. I'll be leaving Tuesday for south Texas. Congrats on the birds Clark.

I would think if your driving straight through to the lease to be outdoors and not around other people it would fall under one of the allowed activities.

iii. To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with social
distancing requirements of six feet (for example, walking, biking, hiking, or
running).

You have a valid point there. Some of the stuff posted on there seems to contradict something else. I honestly think a lot of this is bs. Just dont be stupid about things and practice good hygiene and wallah

This whole situation just sucks. I will be driving straight to the ranch and won't be around people. I don't think I will call that democrat and ask for his permission to go to Texas.

I wouldn't either. I basically did the same thing. Only stopped for fuel and brought food with me. Then slept in my truck on the property.

Re: Opening Morning COVID-19 - 03/24/20 01:23 PM

Harris County will be issuing a "stay at home" order today. Unless it's different from what is usually issued in other cities, I'll probably be going this weekend still.

I'll be going from home to the ranch. Only stopping for gas. I'll be taking my groceries.

Just said "can engage in outdoor activities as long as social distancing is being implemented".

Our 6th annual Thunder Chicken Throwdown is scheduled for April 17th this year. Hopefully some of this will blow over by then. If not, I will probably need the white meat!

Whew. Blew through all the roadblocks and made it! Easiest drive ever! Hardly a vehicle at rush hour in Dallas. Saw zero cops in 100 miles to gate. Incredible and enjoying a bourbon and fire now.

First 3 weeks of our season got cancelled. We have 9 on our lease and I think the landowner was concerned about following the rules. I wont call it a law because I am not sure it really is.

Our county has enacted a shelter in place order until April 11th. I called the SO and they’re response was generic, but basically said don’t show up. I’m packed and was ready to head down on Friday.

Why do you need to go to town? Take all food and supplies with you.

Hunting During This Evolving Health Situation
Our highest priority is the well-being of the citizens of Texas. If you plan to hunt during this uncertain health situation, outdoor areas are good for social distancing. But you must follow the latest local laws and best practices for reducing the spread of the virus.

We recommend that you hunt only with people living under your roof, bring all the food and drink you'll need, sleep in a tent or your vehicle, carry plenty of hand sanitizer and use it. If you’ve been sick in the 2 weeks prior to your hunt, stay home. As always, safety first.

And with safety in mind, we've increased precautions for public Drawn Hunts on WMAs and state parks. No on-site standby drawings will be conducted for the remainder of the season. Drawn-hunt winners will not be affected for now.

Print the Governors executive order to carry for your "papers" if you think you may need it.
https://gov.texas.gov/uploads/files...d_Activity_COVID-19_IMAGE_03-31-2020.pdf
"This executive order does not prohibit people from accessing essential services or
engaging in essential daily activities, such as going to the grocery store or gas station,
providing or obtaining other essential services, visiting parks, hunting or fishing, or
engaging in physical activity like jogging or bicycling, so long as the necessary
precautions are maintained to reduce the transmission of COVID- 19 and to minimize
in person contact with people who are not in the same household."

Are there actually roadblocks?

Myself and 3 family members will be driving from Central Arkansas on Friday traveling down I30 then I 20 till we head south to De Leon. We will be only people on the ranch so we are hoping for no travel problems.

No, was joking. Didn't see a single cop on the way there or back. Still haven't seen one even driving around the city for essentials. They are busy getting kids off playground equipment.

Great!! Thanks for the info!

Lots of speculation and rumors flying around online that lots of States might follow Nebraska and shut down nonresident hunts!

Guess I can keep packing!

Re: Opening Morning COVID-19 - 04/02/20 12:38 AM

Nebraska didnt shutdown nonresident hunts. They shutdown the sale of nonresident tags. If you already have tags they will honor it and you can hunt on private ground.
Posted By: Arkie1

Re: Opening Morning COVID-19 - 04/02/20 05:07 PM

Unfortunately not many people had purchased a non resident license for a gun season that had not yet opened. So that effectively shut down the ability of a large percentage of out of state hunters to actually hunt in any manner. I know I have never purchased my license for Nebraska until right before trip time and then only one tag at a time. I have several friends that had hunts booked that now cant go.
Lots of good guided hunt deals out there for resident hunters. Going to really hurt a ton of outfitters up there.

Re: Opening Morning COVID-19 - 04/03/20 02:10 PM

Well I'm the weird one then. I always buy my tags well in advance for whatever states I plan to hunt.
