Turkey Contest in North Texas - 03/10/13 05:26 PM

For those of you who aren't too far from North Texas, here is a Turkey Contest we have going on if anyone is interested. Should be a good money payout. Send me a message if you have any questions.

MARCH 30 - MAY 12

IMPORTANT DATES

March 29th By 11:59 PM you must be signed in and paid! When the tax man rings the bell, signups will be over and if both entry and/or payment has not been fulfilled, you will not be entered into the contest!

The contest will run from March 30th to May 12th. This will allow everyone enough time have their birds scored. May 12th at MIDNIGHT all turkey kills must be judged and scored in order to qualify.

Entry fee is $40 per 2 man team. Individuals can still sign up for the $40, but the best scoring turkey killed between the 2 man teams or individual will count. If you would like you can bring us the money in person, or mail the entry to us with all the appropriate information (contact us for address). Online you can sign up at www.thehuntinggame.us but there is a $5 online sign up fee.

Since this is the first year for the contest, it will include everyone, men, women, and children. Youth season will not be allowed, only the North Zone (101 counties) hunting season dates will be used for this contest, but if you are in the South Zone, you still have from March 30th to April 28th to hunt for this contest. As the contest grows, we will make new categories for every one's entertainment.

Winner payouts are below:

1st Place
50% of all entry fees
Fan and Beard Mount donated by
Rut Country Taxidermy in Boyd, Texas

2nd Place
30% of all entry fees

3rd Place
15% of all entry fees

The scoring will be updated as much as possible but not daily throughout the contest, so please bear with us who are running this contest. If you are a winner, we request you keep your turkey's spur and beard for a final judging with your 2013 Turkey Tag in case it is needed.

BIRD KILLS

All birds must be measured by one of the judges within 24 hours of the kill in Wise County, Texas!

Judges information is below, just call one of them and they will let you know where to meet for scoring when they are harvested.

Any turkey LEGALLY harvested in TEXAS counts, as long as it is killed in the time slot allowed. All Texas Parks and Wildlife rules must be followed when harvesting your turkey. You can go ahead and clean your bird, as long as the spurs and beard are still attached to carcass. No home grown or raised turkeys count, must be the wild ones!

SCORING

All teams and individuals will only have 1 Turkey count towards placing
and it will be the largest scoring Turkey from your team/individual.
You can only win one place in this contest!

BEARDS
TOTAL Length of the beard to the 1/16 of an inch which also includes multiple beards.

Bearded hens will get the same scoring as Jakes and Toms beards, and if spur buttons are apparent, they will be scored the same.

SPURS
TOTAL length of each spur will be counted to the 1/16 of an inch.

Beard(s) length + Spur(2) lengths = SCORE

*** Multiple beards and spurs count.***
***Both spurs must be measured and scored***

In the event of a tie, the turkey with the longest beard, including multiple beards, will win!

JUDGES

Tourney Administrators

I, Trey Hawkins and Tres Poynor will primarily be running the Wild Turkey Contest this year and will be judging the birds ourselves.

Remember this is a money contest - We will judge if anything looks out of place and will not hesitate to disqualify due to un-honorable methods. Lets have a good time with this contest and of course the number one prize you will get, is braggin' rights!

If you have any questions, or if you have a scoring for us, please call us.

Right at 20! Making the pot for first place $400. This last week is when the sign ups will really pick up... Even during the hog contest we had, more than half signed up during the last 2 days.

Nope, and I still have people just waiting to pay, so it should turn out pretty good! Some of the team names are pretty funny!

Re: Turkey Contest in North Texas - 03/25/13 11:18 PM

So a team of 2 (eight birds possible) can only take 2 birds in for scoring?

If you take in your personal biggest (say 10 inch beard 1.5 spurs) and shoot a 12inch beard 1.75 spurs last day of the season you can't count it?

Nope... They can bring in all of them for scoring within 24 hours of the kill! As long as it is within the rules and regulations of the contest and TPWD.
